Belly dancing fun
for men & women
The new term of Beginners belly dance
classes at Kashmir Belly Dance in South
Brighton starts in February. The class will
be on Monday evenings from February 12
at 6.30pm, while a mixed class (men and
women) will be on Thursday evenings from
February 15 at 7.30pm.
Anyone enrolling and pre-paying by
February 10 will receive a $20 discount.
Enrolments are through the website, www.
bellyraqs.co.nz.
The eight, 75-minute classes comprise an
hour of dance movement and 15 minutes of
background information on belly dancing,
with videos and music.
With one husband and wife already signed
up, instructor Kashmir is encouraging more
men to join the mixed class.
“Belly dancing is not just for women,” she
says. “It is fun and enjoyable for everyone.”
Belly dancing can also be a step on the way
to a new fitness regime, and participants get
to know how their body works through the
various movements, Kashmir says.
Kashmir Belly Dance is located at 8
Drake Street, South Brighton.
Traditional
social dancing
of Scotland
For hundreds of years Scottish Country
Dancing was enjoyed at every level of
society, from royal ballrooms to village halls.
Over the last 100 years it has been developed
to maintain its unique style and music, while
keeping pace with the modern world.
There are Scottish Country Dance clubs
on every continent of the world, which is
testament to the universal appeal of the
dancing. Here in the Christchurch area there
are nine clubs providing the opportunity to
enjoy this pastime Monday to Thursday, plus
a children’s class on Saturday mornings and
combined dances most Saturday evenings.
The health benefits of Scottish Country
Dancing are documented. The physical
movements exercise the body. The patterns
of the dances are great for keeping the brain
on its toes. The music, which lifts the spirits,
and the social interaction complete the
package.
Come and give it a go.
House of Cards is a day-time bridge club
situated in Merivale. Our philosophy is to
provide a friendly, family-type environment
for bridge players.
Bridge is not only a wonderful, stimulating
game, it is also splendidly social. We have
had much pleasure in seeing many new
friendships flourish over the years.
House of Cards is especially renowned
for its teaching and we have taught literally
thousands of beginners as well as improvers,
in Christchurch and around New Zealand.
We have run several national teachers’
conferences and have been instrumental
in creating a national standard for bridge
teachers.
We have also written a whole series of
bridge books for new and improving players
which are widely used in New Zealand,
Australia and the United Kingdom.
We are a friendly, enthusiastic team who
welcome new players. We have four sessions
dedicated especially for the novice player, so
you needn’t feel nervous!
