Tinley Park bank robbery suspect identified
Cody Mroczka, Editor
A 38-year-old homeless
man has been charged
with robbing a Chase Bank
branch on Feb. 3 in Tinley
Park.
Thomas Conroyd appeared
in federal court on
Feb. 5 for an initial appearance
in which he was ordered
detained by the judge, according
to Garrett H. Croon,
FBI-Chicago’s Media Coordinator.
The next hearing is
scheduled for Thursday in
U.S. District Court.
The Tinley Park Police
Department announced on
Saturday afternoon that a
suspect had been arrested
after allegedly robbing and
then fleeing the branch located
at 17157 Harlem Ave.
earlier that day.
According to the criminal
complaint, at approximately
11:45 a.m., Conroyd
allegedly intimidated an
employee into handing him
$4,300 with a handwritten
note on a manila folder
that stated, “PLEASE GIVE
ALL YOUR CASH NOW.
NO ALAR[M]. NO DYE
PACKETS OR I START
SHOOTING.”
Conroyd then left the bank
without taking the folder,
however, while the bank
teller called 911, she reportedly
observed him walking
toward the McDonald’s located
across the parking lot.
He was described as a white
male in his mid-30s, roughly
5-foot-6 tall with brown
hair and wearing a charcoal
grey-colored hooded sweatshirt
and black beanie-style
hate with bright orange and
cream-colored gloves.
At approximately 12:15
p.m., TPPD responded to
a 911 call of a report of an
individual matching the suspect’s
description in a church
parking lot located at 17100
69th Ave., approximately 0.4
miles away from the Chase
Bank.
Officers then reportedly arrested
Conroyd and searched
him. They allegedly recovered
a bundle of bills totaling
approximately $4,300,
the complaint states. Police
brought the bank teller to the
area where Conroyd was in
custody and she reportedly
confirmed his identity as the
robber while investigators
reviewed surveillance video
from the bank.
RIGHT: Security camera
footage inside the Chase
Bank bank captured this
suspect later identified
as Thomas Conroyd.
