Developed and directed by some of the top high school band<br />
teachers in Ottawa, this highly specialized program offers<br />
campers an opportunity to learn something new or to<br />
improve on a current instrument. Take your place on stage<br />
and perform at a special concert with fellow campers on Friday.<br />
WHY JOIN BAND CAMP?<br />
• <strong>Camp</strong>ers receive approximately 3 hours/day of small group instruction<br />
• Great preparation for the school band<br />
• Free instrument rental from St. John’s Music for the duration of the<br />
camp (*registration must take place prior to Tuesday June 19 to be<br />
eligible for free rentals)<br />
• Souvenir recordings and end-of-session concert<br />
• Games, outdoor play, crafts & other camp activities<br />
• <strong>Dovercourt</strong> Quality Day <strong>Camp</strong> standards,<br />
including High Five® certified staff<br />

YOUR TEACHERS<br />
Jean-Francois Fauteux<br />
Jean-Francois is the current <strong>Band</strong> Director at<br />
Nepean High School and is a founding member of<br />
the <strong>Dovercourt</strong> <strong>Band</strong> <strong>Camp</strong>. He has more than 30<br />
years experience as <strong>Band</strong> Director and Music<br />
teacher at grade 3-12 levels. He has received the<br />
OCDSB Fine Arts Recognition Award, both at the<br />
Elementary and Secondary levels, and Majic 100’s<br />
Golden Apple Award. JF is also a recipient of the<br />
OCDSB Director Citation Award and directs the<br />
newly formed Nepean All-City Lab <strong>Band</strong>,<br />
comprised of talented High School students from<br />
the Ottawa Valley.<br />
Mandar Gumaste<br />
Mandar is currently teaching music at<br />
Longfields-Davidson Heights Secondary School in<br />
Barrhaven. He teaches grades 7 and 8 instrumental<br />
music and directs the Longfields Gr. 8 Concert <strong>Band</strong><br />
and Gr. 8 Jazz <strong>Band</strong>. He has been a <strong>Band</strong> Director<br />
for 15 years and has received the OCDSB Fine Arts<br />
Recognition Award for Intermediate Music.<br />
Ensembles under his direction have performed at a<br />
very high level of excellence at the Captial Region<br />
Music Festival and Musicfest Canada Nationals,<br />
achieving many Gold Awards. His school Jazz band<br />
has for the past 2 years won the Capital Region<br />
Music Festival's Most Outstanding Jazz Ensemble<br />
Award. He is also the founder/director of the award<br />
winning Ottawa Junior Jazz <strong>Band</strong> (http://ojjb.ca).<br />
Neil Yorke-Slader<br />
Neil taught music at the elementary and<br />
secondary levels for 17 years. Over 45 of his<br />
compositions are published through University of<br />
Northern Colorado Jazz Press and Burnihla Music<br />
Publishing; several are preserved by the National<br />
Library of Canada (Archives). Neil has directed the<br />
Nepean All-City Jazz <strong>Band</strong> for the past 30 years,<br />
performing at concerts and festivals across the<br />
country with jazz legends. In 2016, Neil was<br />
named to the Musicfest Canada Hall of Fame for<br />
his contributions to Canadian music education.<br />
Neil Power<br />
Neil is currently teaching music at Half Moon Bay<br />
Public School, with more than 25 years of<br />
experience teaching music at the grade 6-12 levels.<br />
He has received the OCDSB Fine Arts Recognition<br />
Award & the Majic 100’s Golden Apple Award, and<br />
his ensembles have consistently achieved a Gold<br />
Standard at both the National Music Festival and<br />
the Capital Region Music Festival.
