Developed and directed by some of the top high school band
teachers in Ottawa, this highly specialized program offers
campers an opportunity to learn something new or to
improve on a current instrument. Take your place on stage
and perform at a special concert with fellow campers on Friday.
WHY JOIN BAND CAMP?
• Campers receive approximately 3 hours/day of small group instruction
• Great preparation for the school band
• Free instrument rental from St. John’s Music for the duration of the
camp (*registration must take place prior to Tuesday June 19 to be
eligible for free rentals)
• Souvenir recordings and end-of-session concert
• Games, outdoor play, crafts & other camp activities
• Dovercourt Quality Day Camp standards,
including High Five® certified staff

YOUR TEACHERS
Jean-Francois Fauteux
Jean-Francois is the current Band Director at
Nepean High School and is a founding member of
the Dovercourt Band Camp. He has more than 30
years experience as Band Director and Music
teacher at grade 3-12 levels. He has received the
OCDSB Fine Arts Recognition Award, both at the
Elementary and Secondary levels, and Majic 100’s
Golden Apple Award. JF is also a recipient of the
OCDSB Director Citation Award and directs the
newly formed Nepean All-City Lab Band,
comprised of talented High School students from
the Ottawa Valley.
Mandar Gumaste
Mandar is currently teaching music at
Longfields-Davidson Heights Secondary School in
Barrhaven. He teaches grades 7 and 8 instrumental
music and directs the Longfields Gr. 8 Concert Band
and Gr. 8 Jazz Band. He has been a Band Director
for 15 years and has received the OCDSB Fine Arts
Recognition Award for Intermediate Music.
Ensembles under his direction have performed at a
very high level of excellence at the Captial Region
Music Festival and Musicfest Canada Nationals,
achieving many Gold Awards. His school Jazz band
has for the past 2 years won the Capital Region
Music Festival's Most Outstanding Jazz Ensemble
Award. He is also the founder/director of the award
winning Ottawa Junior Jazz Band (http://ojjb.ca).
Neil Yorke-Slader
Neil taught music at the elementary and
secondary levels for 17 years. Over 45 of his
compositions are published through University of
Northern Colorado Jazz Press and Burnihla Music
Publishing; several are preserved by the National
Library of Canada (Archives). Neil has directed the
Nepean All-City Jazz Band for the past 30 years,
performing at concerts and festivals across the
country with jazz legends. In 2016, Neil was
named to the Musicfest Canada Hall of Fame for
his contributions to Canadian music education.
Neil Power
Neil is currently teaching music at Half Moon Bay
Public School, with more than 25 years of
experience teaching music at the grade 6-12 levels.
He has received the OCDSB Fine Arts Recognition
Award & the Majic 100’s Golden Apple Award, and
his ensembles have consistently achieved a Gold
Standard at both the National Music Festival and
the Capital Region Music Festival.
