MARCH 2018 | ISSUE #65
having an effect on marine life as they miss the filters, enter
the sewage system and into the sea.
In fact, everyday our oceans are being filled with plastic.
According to research by Sky Ocean Rescue, by the year
2050 there could be more plastic in the seas than fish!
That is an incredibly scary thought but we can choose
products that don’t contain microbeads and that are
packaged responsibly to help reduce this number.
Alternatives to Microbeads...
When it comes to skincare we know there isn’t a one size
fits all answer but you can be assured there is an exfoliant
for you!
One company are taking this to the next level and
collecting used coffee grinds from coffee shops and
remanufacturing it into amazing coffee scrubs, genius idea!
The benefits of coffee are threefold as coffee grounds act
as a natural exfoliator, whilst the caffeine stimulates blood
flow making it effective against cellulite and stretch marks.
Not to mention the wonderful coffee scent - we all need
our fix!
Other fantastic natural exfoliators are sugar, salt, walnut
shell-powder, peach seed powder, apricot kernels and
pumice to name a few.
How to choose the right exfoliator...
Choosing an exfoliator you love will come down to the
individual but there are some things to consider.
When selecting a facial scrub/polish remember your skin
is very delicate, particularly around the
eye area, and a sugar or salt scrub may
be too harsh. Try a gentle pumice or fruit
seed powder. Tougher areas of your body
such as your heels or elbows may need
a stronger option such as a sugar or salt
scrub. Try to select one with nourishing
ingredients such as natural oils to hydrate
the skin and ensure you’re left with super
smooth skin.
Over-Exfoliating...
One word of caution, particularly if you
have sensitive skin, don’t over exfoliate.
Once or twice a week should be sufficient
to keep your skin looking healthy.
Aggressive exfoliation can lead to dry,
irritated and sore skin.
If you suffer from congested skin ensure
you are using a good cleanser or wash and
you are moisturising regularly. You’ll soon
get to know what works well for you.
Most of all, have fun experimenting. ‘Me
time’ is underrated
