SIX PEOPLE had a lucky
escape when a campervan
collided with a car in strong
wind near Birdlings Flat on
Sunday.
The campervan overturned
about 4.30pm on Sunday on
Christchurch Akaroa Rd.
Police said the campervan
was blown across the road and
collected a car on the way. The
campervan ended up on its
side through a fence.
Both vehicles were badly
damaged and six people were
left with cuts bruises.
Police said the interior of
the campervan looked like a
“bomb-site”.
There was tomato sauce
up the walls and food everywhere,
along with smashed
plates and glasses. Police and
the Lincoln and Little River
volunteer fire brigades attended
the accident.
THE STEPS which once
provided public access to
the beach at the eastern end
of Beachville Rd need be
restored, says a residents’
association.
The Redcliffs Residents’
Association has written a letter
asking for the project to be
included in the city council’s
Long Term Plan.
The previous steps were
damaged in the February 22,
2011, earthquake, and were
not replaced during repairs to
the sea wall.
The association has asked
the Linwood-Central-
Heathcote Community Board
to amend the draft Long Term
Plan to include the project.
There is a small beach at
the site which is well-used
by swimmers, kayakers
and paddle boarders, said
association secretary Pat
McIntosh.
However, at the moment
access is only possible by
clambering over unstable
rocks, said Dr McIntosh.
“We have been told of two
people who have received
minor injuries when trying
to take kayaks over these
boulders.” The nearest
alternative access ways to the
beach is about 1km in either
direction, she said.
“(This project) may be small
but is very important for the
amenity of this coastal area.”
2 down, 4 to go!
We’re working in three key central
city intersections over six weekends,
8pm Fri to 6am Mon, until 26 March.
we’ll be back again soon.
The intersections will remain rougher
than usual until April or May, when the
final surface will be applied.
