<strong>March</strong> 30 th & 31 st : Easter<br />

SPECIAL EVENTS<br />

• INCOME-TAX-PREPARATION ASSISTANCE - Mondays, 1-5 PM,<br />

Meeting Room. Representatives from the AARP will provide free income-tax-preparation<br />

assistance for low-income taxpayers. Patrons<br />

should bring the following information to the session if possible: photo<br />

ID; Social Security card(s) for self, spouse and all dependents; last year’s<br />

tax return; W-2, 1099s and any other compensation received in 2017; unemployment<br />

compensation statements and any other documents that<br />

are necessary to complete your return. This service is free and open to<br />

the public on a first-come, first-served basis. Income-tax forms are not<br />

available at the libraries, but patrons may use the libraries’ computers<br />

and printers to download and print out the forms from the IRS website,<br />

www.irs.gov, during regular library hours. A library card is needed to<br />

use the printers and the cost to print is 10¢ per black-and-white page.<br />

• CRAFT MONTH DEMONSTRATIONS - Thursdays, 6:30-7:30 PM,<br />

Multi-purpose Room. In recognition of National Craft Month in <strong>March</strong>,<br />

the library will host a series of hands-on craft activities throughout<br />

the month for adults and youth aged 12 and above. <strong>The</strong> series is designed<br />

to introduce people to fun, new crafts and hobbies. Materials<br />

for these programs are made possible through the generous support<br />

of the Friends of Cinco Ranch Branch Library. Seating is limited and<br />

reservations are encouraged.<br />

• INTRODUCTION TO GROWING HERBS - Saturday, <strong>March</strong> 10 th , 10:30-<br />

11:30 AM, Multi-purpose Room. Fort Bend County Master Gardener<br />

Tricia Bradbury will provide an overview and general information on<br />

growing herbs on the Texas Gulf Coast. Learn how to preserve herbs<br />

for later use by drying or freezing them or by using them to flavor oil<br />

and vinegar. Bradbury will also share tips on cooking with fresh and<br />

dried herbs.<br />

• RESUMÉ-BUILDER WORKSHOP - Monday, <strong>March</strong> 12 th , 12 Noon,<br />

Computer Lab. Learn the basics of putting together a resumé. Those<br />

attending this informal program will receive one-one-one help formatting<br />

a resumé. For assistance on a pre-existing resumé, please have a<br />

digital copy available on a usb flashdrive, saved to the cloud or have<br />

access to it via email. Registration required.<br />

• PLAN YOUR GARDEN WITH CONFIDENCE - Saturday, <strong>March</strong> 17 th , 10-<br />

11 AM, Meeting Room. Fort Bend County Master Gardeners Catherine<br />

Pennington and Janize Guzman will talk about proven plant selections<br />

that will thrive in this area and that will also attract butterflies and<br />

birds. Get tips on how to plan for a successful, low-maintenance landscape<br />

garden with native plants and Texas Superstars.<br />

• CHESS DAY @ THE LIBRARY - Saturday, <strong>March</strong> 17 th , 10:30 AM-2:30<br />

PM, Meeting Room. People of all ages and skill levels - from beginners<br />

to advanced - who are interested in playing chess, are invited<br />

to practice their strategies while playing against others in a relaxed,<br />

stress-free environment. Learn a new chess move (or two) during this<br />

come-and-go activity. Experienced players will be on hand to provide<br />

tips and assistance. A limited number of chess sets will be provided,<br />

but players are welcome to bring their own sets as well.<br />

• ANCIENT EMPIRES-ROME - Saturday, <strong>March</strong> 17 th , 1-3 PM, Multi-purpose<br />

Room. In this third of three programs on Ancient Empires, former<br />

architecture professor Sheba Akhtar will talk about the Roman Republic<br />

and the assassination of Julius Caesar, the Roman Empire and Augustus<br />

Caesar and Emperor Constantine and the rise of Christianity. Learn<br />

about different Roman achievements, such as city-planning and government,<br />

art and literature, engineering and architecture and military<br />

and cultural conquests.<br />

• SENIOR RESOURCES COLLABORATIVE’S “SMARTSIZING-LET’S<br />

START THE CONVERSATION” - Saturday, <strong>March</strong> 24 th , 10:30-11:30 AM,<br />

Meeting Room. Linda Jordan, founder of Senior Resources Collaborative,<br />

will provide tips on simplifying one’s lifestyle, downsizing one’s<br />

home and reducing responsibilities. Learn about different housing<br />

options that are available. This program is intended for senior citizens<br />

and their families, as well as anyone who is considering economizing<br />

and living a simpler lifestyle.<br />

• ADULT COMPUTER CLASSES: All computer classes will take place in<br />

the Computer Lab. Reservations are required.<br />

MS Word Survival Basics: Tuesday, <strong>March</strong> 6 th , 10 AM<br />

MS Excel Survival Basics: Thursday, <strong>March</strong> 8 th , 10 AM<br />

• 3D PRINTING CLASSES<br />

Introduction to 3D Printing: Thursday, <strong>March</strong> 22 nd , 10 AM. Library staff<br />

will introduce the 3D printer and explain how library patrons can print<br />

their own designs. Those attending the session will also learn about<br />

free websites that can be used to find 3D files or to create their own<br />

3D designs.<br />
