The little redbrick schoolhouse,
known as the Curtis School, has been
a focal point in the community for
more than one hundred years.
Beginning in the early 1900s through
1967, Curtis School was the place
where educational and social
opportunities intertwined for children
in the community. Today the tradition
lives on as Curtis School, now the
Curtis Center for the Arts, continues
to provide the community with
educational and social opportunities
for both children and adults.
In partnership with Arapahoe Libraries
the first annual Village Read to further
the Village through reading. The
program encouraged adults to read this
year’s book, “Lake of Fire” by
Colorado author Mark Stevens and
participate in an art exhibit at City
Musical Instrument Playground
Opened At Westlands Park
In June 2017, the Village celebrated
the grand opening of its first musical
instrument playground at Westlands
Park to bring the community together
through music. The idea of placing
outdoor musical instruments at
Westlands Park stemmed from a
suggestion by a Village resident to
bring music to Village parks. A
steering committee comprised of local
music teachers, members of the PTR
Commission, the Arts and Humanities
Council, PTR staff, and the resident
who proposed the project was formed
and responsible for the selection of a
well-rounded mix of musical
instruments to meet the needs of all
ages.
