NEED VOLUNTEERS TO JUMP IN! The
only requirement is that you have to be
From the Editor
Taking in a new business
Thomas Czaja
tom@homerhorizon.com
People are often happy
to hear about a new
business. It may offer
products they like, be a
good setting for socializing
or it gives back to the community
through charitable
efforts or by supporting
other local places.
When there is already
an existing business that
expands or offers something
completely new besides
what it has become known
for, it can be interesting to
see what shape that ends
up taking. In the case of
John Laflamboy, a Lockport
Township High School graduate
who is the co-owner of
Zombie Army Productions,
which puts on HellsGate
Haunted House in Lockport,
the chance to expand beyond
the haunted house around
Halloween meant taking
the next step and creating
Legacy Adventure Park.
This park sits adjacent to
HellsGate Haunted House.
They had the space and
means to add something
else, and now approximately
66 acres will have the likes
of paintball, archery tag,
outside laser tag, zombie tag
and engage in a zombie hunt
and treasure hunt. It will
open in April, and you can
read the full story about it in
this issue on Page 3.
I know as a young child,
my mom used to take me
over to the park on a fairly
regular basis to play, and
getting older meant spending
time in the neighborhood
with friends and getting
some exercise and fresh
air, whether with playing
sports or just exploring the
area or what have you. We
didn’t have something like
Legacy Adventure Park, to
my knowledge, but we were
always on the lookout for
a place to go with friends.
This certainly seems like it
would have drawn the attention
of many youth looking
to hang out with friends,
as its unique backdrop and
HELP YOUR CUSTOMERS
setting carefully made by its
creators seems like something
out of a movie.
Of course, a community
wants and needs a variety of
businesses — from restaurants
to grocery stores to
other shops and hangout
spots — and something like
this tends to stand out in the
crowd. I think things like
this are just as crucial as any
other attraction, as outdoor
entertainment and sights,
whether the park systems,
an adventure-type park or
something else, are something
people are looking for
many months of the year.
We always try to make a
note to highlight new businesses
that come in the community,
no matter what shape
or form they take. We should
be seeing some new businesses
in Homer Glen that will be
featured coming up soon, too,
in these pages. There can be
a lot of curiosity or excitement
when people first hear
the name of a new business,
speculating on what it may
entail and have to offer.
It is always interesting
to see what businesses will
make their way into the
town and area next, and
how things will continue to
evolve over time.
