Dressed in their finest boots, cowboy hats and flannel shirts, mother and son duos enjoyed a night at Skokie School filled with music, fun and food, building memories to last a lifetime. “Nights like these give moms some time out to dance, be goofy and just have fun with their sons,” Recreation Supervisor Kevin Rutherford said. “I remember going to mother and son dances when I was growing up, and I always appreciated the special time my mom carved out to spend with me. I know these boys are building great memories.” One of the highlights of the night included a meal offered by The Grand Food Center, giving moms a much needed break from the kitchen. After, it was straight to the dance floor, where 4Sure Entertainment got the party started with popular tunes by Bruno Mars, Maroon 5 and a variety of today’s popular Isaac and Ravi Batista, of Winnetka, enjoy each other’s company March 8 at the Winnetka Park District’s annual Mother and Son Date Night. Each year, they look forward to a night of bonding and fun. “We really enjoy the dancing and the opportunity to go out and have a good time together,” Ravi Batista said. “It’s nice to have a special night to look forward to.” After grooving on the dance floor, boys and moms got lost in silly games such as Plinko, giant Connect Four and even cow milking. “What could be better than moms and sons competing to see who can milk the cow the fastest?” Rutherford said. “I recently learned about this game and just knew it would be a hit tonight.” Stephanie Ritchell, of Wilmette, and her son, Lawson, 4, played a few competitive rounds of Connect Four, and noted a few other favorite activities. “The photo booth was a big hit for us,” she said. “We had a lot of fun dressing up and being silly. It’s our first time being here, and we are really enjoying our special night out together.” Stephanie and Lawson Ritchell, of Wilmette, play a giant game of Connect Four.
