Elsie Jean Russell Conant<br />

Elsie Jean Russell<br />

Conant, 92, of Asheville,<br />

N.C., a New Trier<br />

graduate, died Feb. 28.<br />

She went to New Trier<br />

High School and then attended<br />

Duke University,<br />

where she was a member<br />

of Delta Gamma Sorority<br />

and graduated Phi<br />

Beta Kappa in 1946. That<br />

year, she married Roger<br />

Conant and together, they<br />

had four sons, Douglas,<br />

Hayden, Steven and Jay.<br />

A fifth son was lost at<br />

birth. The family lived in<br />

Glencoe, and Conant was<br />

active in many civic organizations,<br />

including The<br />

Chicago Botanic Garden,<br />

Cub Scouts and the Glencoe<br />

Women’s Club. She<br />

was an expert bridge player,<br />

ultimately achieving<br />

recognition as Silver Life<br />

Master. She is survived<br />

by her sons and delighted<br />

in tracking the exploits<br />

of all of her seven grandchildren.<br />

A private family<br />

celebration of life will be<br />

held at a future date.<br />

Edward<br />

Albert Davis Jr. (Eddie),<br />

a Winnetka native,<br />

died March 4 at home in<br />

Northbrook at 77. He was<br />

preceded in death by his<br />

daughter, Amy, and son,<br />

Ward. He is survived by<br />

his wife, Linda, and his<br />

children, Andrea Breen,<br />

Jean (Jeff) Rissman, Neil<br />

(Sheila) Davis, as well<br />

as by his grandchildren,<br />

Judge, Erin, Shayna, Noah,<br />

Emmett, Liam, Arlo, Fran<br />

and EJ, He was a loving<br />

brother to his sister, Edie<br />

(Mike) Daharsh. He is also<br />

survived by his brotherin-law,<br />

Randy (Judy) Mc-<br />

Neely, nephews, Nick and<br />

Sam (Sherri) McNeely,<br />

and grandnephew, Hank.<br />

He was raised in Winnetka<br />

and never missed a<br />

New Trier High School reunion.<br />

He graduated from<br />

Hanover College and received<br />

his MBA from the<br />

University of Chicago. He<br />

served as a naval officer at<br />

the beginning of the Vietnam<br />

War. He retired from<br />

Outboard Marine Corporation<br />

and then began a second<br />

career selling men’s<br />

clothing. He loved talking,<br />

listening, his family, his<br />

friends, fishing, traveling<br />

and curling. Curling was<br />

his sport and passion. Any<br />

day on the ice was a good<br />

one. And, he loved trains.<br />

The grandkids called him<br />

“Choo Choo.” At his request,<br />

there will be no<br />

service. His ashes will be<br />

scattered at his beloved<br />

Camp Content.<br />

Robert Earl Drew<br />

Robert Earl<br />

Drew, of Kenilworth,<br />

a New Trier<br />

graduate, died Feb. 3.<br />

Born Nov.<br />

22, 1930,<br />

he graduated<br />

from<br />

New Trier<br />

High School<br />

in 1948 and<br />

graduated Drew<br />

from the<br />

University of Illinois with<br />

a bachelor’s in mechanical<br />

engineering in 1952.<br />

Shortly after, he married<br />

Patricia Michelman and<br />

moved to New Mexico,<br />

where he was a lieutenant<br />

in the Army, based<br />

at White Sands Proving<br />

Grounds. After leaving<br />

the military, the couple<br />

moved to Milwaukee<br />

before eventually landing<br />

in Kenilworth in the<br />

early ’60s. In Milwaukee,<br />

Drew began his professional<br />

career working in<br />

industrial sales for Cutler<br />

Hammer before joining<br />

his father and brother at<br />

Drew & Carr in the advertising<br />

world. In 1969,<br />

Drew left advertising to<br />

own and run a plastics<br />

firm, Leon Bush Manufacturing.<br />

For more than<br />

25 years, Drew utilized<br />

his mechanical engineering<br />

background, designing<br />

several household and<br />

toy items and was credited<br />

with several patents.<br />

Drew enjoyed coaching<br />

local youth baseball and<br />

football teams and was<br />

the de facto league photographer<br />

during the ’60s<br />

and ’70s. Drew was preceded<br />

in death by his beloved<br />

wife of 63 years,<br />

Patricia. He is survived<br />

by his four children, 13<br />

grandchildren and 7 greatgrandchildren.<br />

A memorial<br />

service will be held<br />

at 11 a.m. on March 23 at<br />

Molly P. Driscoll<br />

Molly P. Driscoll nee<br />

Packel, 67, a New Trier<br />

graduate, died suddenly in<br />

Mexico. She was the beloved<br />

wife of Michael P.,<br />

loving mother of three and<br />

devoted grandmother of<br />

four. Driscoll was a 1964<br />

graduate of St. Joseph<br />

School, 1968 graduate of<br />

New Trier High School<br />

and graduate of Stephens<br />

College. Visitation and funeral<br />

were March 6 at St.<br />

Norbert Church in Northbrook.<br />

James E. “Jim” Farmer<br />

62, longtime<br />

leader with<br />

Winnetka<br />

organizations,<br />

died<br />

March 1<br />

from complications<br />

Farmer<br />

related to<br />

West Nile Virus. He was<br />

the beloved husband of<br />

36 years of Leslie nee<br />

Fait; adored father of Rick<br />

(Lauren) Farmer and Bill<br />

Farmer; dear son of June<br />

nee Dean and the late Ezekiel<br />

Farmer; loving brother<br />

of John (Bryce) Farmer;<br />

and devoted caregiver to<br />

his beloved dog, Buddy.<br />

After growing up in Lake<br />

Bluff, Farmer moved to<br />

Montana with his family<br />

in high school and graduated<br />

from the University<br />

of Montana School<br />

of Business. He earned<br />

his CPA and worked for<br />

Arthur Andersen & Co.,<br />

where he became a partner<br />

in the audit practice, specializing<br />

in telecommunications.<br />

Farmer changed<br />

careers to enable him to<br />

spend more time with his<br />

family and became CFO<br />

of several organizations<br />

including Frankel & Co.,<br />

The Jacobson Group and<br />

most recently The Horton<br />

Group, where he was<br />

a member of its Board<br />

of Directors. He donated<br />

many hours to charitable<br />

and civic organizations,<br />

including coaching his<br />

sons’ soccer and basketball<br />

teams, taking leadership<br />

roles on the boards of<br />

several community organizations,<br />

including The<br />

Winnetka Community<br />

House and the New Trier<br />

Booster Club. He counseled<br />

fellow diabetics at<br />

Mt. Sinai Hospital after<br />

he underwent a successful<br />

pancreas transplant and<br />

devoted himself to volunteering<br />

at Orphans of the<br />

Storm Animal Shelter and<br />

driving animal relay rescue<br />

missions. Farmer was<br />

a passionate fisherman,<br />

landscaper and drummer.<br />

Visitation was March<br />

10 until time of memorial<br />

Hope and Charity Church<br />

in Winnetka.<br />
