The College is hosting an open house Saturday, April 10. Central Maine Community College (CMCC) will host its annual spring open house for interested students Saturday, April 10, from 9:00 a.m. to noon at its lakeside campus at 1250 Turner Street in Auburn. Faculty members and student services staff will be on hand to provide information on programs of study, financial aid, the admissions process, and options for transferring to four-year colleges. “We are really looking forward to the open house this spring,” notes Betsy Libby, associate dean of Student Services. “This event provides an excellent opportunity for students to learn more about our programs and services. In addition, the College offers transfer programs that enable graduates to continue their education at a fouryear institution. It is a crippling disease and is incurable. It attacks nerve cells in the spine, causing weakness and atrophy of the voluntary muscles. She is completely crippled, except for the use of her two index fingers. She weighs 54 pounds. She is wheel chair bound and sleeps in an iron lung. She also has two blood diseases: Pernicious Anemia and Von Willebrand type I. Beth is one of the most delightful and bright young ladies you will ever meet. She is quick to laugh and joke, even with all that she suffers from. She laughs about enjoying her "fast" wheelchair and how her mother can hardly keep up with her when they go to Walmart! Clearly, the sparkle in her eyes reflects the love that she has for life. She talks about having clinically died 3 times. She takes no time for granted. Though she may be physically weakened with illness, her mind and heart remain strong. She attends fund raiser after fund raiser and works tirelessly to help raise money for a home fit for her to live in.
