I
began my career in the golf course design industry back in August of 2021.
As a long-time appreciator of golf courses and the natural environments they
integrate with, I jumped at the opportunity to be a part of the design process.
The majority of my time at Mackenzie & Ebert is spent creating 3D visualisations
of golf courses. However, my responsibilities also expand to data processing,
plan and proposal documentation creation and the research and development
of visualisations.
I have a strong arts background with an A* at A level in Art before going on
to do Computer Animation Arts at Bournemouth University (under the National
Centre for Computer Animation).
During my degree for Computer Animation Arts, I learned to use a variety of
software packages, such as Zbrush, Maya, Blender, Premiere Pro, Microsoft
Office Suite and Photoshop. More importantly, I learnt the ability to quickly
understand and learn new software.
Since joining Mackenzie & Ebert, my software expertise has expanded to 3DS
Max, Unreal Engine, Autocad, Global Mapper and Publisher.
Igrew up in South Wales which afforded me the opportunity to play some incredible
golf courses across the coastline and in the mountains and valleys. Seeing the
variety in golf courses was where my interest in golf course architecture began.
I studied Mechanical Engineering and Management at the University of Exeter
where I was also a part of the golf society for the three years of my degree. During
my degree I learned to use various design softwares and developed the key skills
in seeing through the design process from initial brief to the delivery of a completed
project. Following my degree, I took a project management role in the nuclear
industry which is when I decided to pursue a career in the golf course industry.
I took a position with golf course contractors, MJ Abbott, as a contracts’ supervisor
where I worked in the surveying and contracts team. That gave me the opportunity
to see some of the best courses around the country and an introduction into the
principles of golf course construction.
I began my role with Mackenzie and Ebert at the end of 2022 where I have been
assisting the various elements of the business such as developing designs and
undertaking site visits.
My degree culminated in a short, animated film I created focused on a mossy
Icelandic environment and a man’s journey through it. This helped me when I
joined Mackenzie & Ebert as it gave me some experience in creating large scale
natural environments.
