IT’S ONLY week three of<br />
the NRL season but the New<br />
Zealand Warriors already have a<br />
shot at history.<br />
Saturday’s victory over the<br />
Gold Coast Titans ensured the<br />
Warriors have begun the season<br />
with two victories, the first time<br />
the side has done so since 2009.<br />
Can they go 3-0? That would<br />
be a first if they beat the Raiders<br />
in Canberra on Saturday.<br />
In their previous 23 seasons<br />
the Warriors have never started<br />
the year with three victories.<br />
<strong>The</strong> Warriors best start to a<br />
season was in 2003.<br />
After dropping the opening<br />
game at home to the Knights, the<br />
Warriors won their next five for<br />
a 5-1 start.<br />
<strong>The</strong>y ended up finishing sixth<br />
on the table before losing the<br />
preliminary final to eventual<br />
winners Penrith.<br />
<strong>The</strong> Warriors last won three<br />
straight games in the 2016 season<br />
(victories over the Broncos,<br />
Knights and Roosters), a year in<br />
which they lost their first three<br />
games of the season.<br />
Canberra have started the season<br />
with two two-point defeats<br />
and currently sit 12th on the<br />
table, the best of the NRL’s five<br />
winless teams.<br />
However, the trip to Canberra<br />
has never been easy for the Warriors.<br />
<strong>The</strong>y have won just three encounters<br />
in 15 trips to Canberra<br />
including a 20-8 round seven<br />
defeat last year.<br />
