The crazy food cravings you have just before your monthly period can sabotage<br />

your diet. Here are some pointers on how to manage these period cravings.<br />

You eat lunch, but then half an<br />

hour later, you are obsessed<br />

with chocolate, and go ahead<br />

and eat it. Then another 10<br />

minutes go by, and you are<br />

craving for something crunchy and salty,<br />

so you eat a few handfuls of pretzels. Another<br />

10 minutes later, you are thinking<br />

that the best idea ever is to have some ice<br />

cream. What is given here? Then you remember<br />

that your period is due next week.<br />

Your hormones can be thanked for that,<br />

specifically serotonin and cortisol. Cortisol<br />

is a stress hormone that has a tendency<br />

to spike just before your period<br />

starts and serotonin is a calm-inducing<br />

hormone that has a tendency to dip. This<br />

combination causes you to have cravings<br />

for fatty foods and also carbs and sweets.<br />
