Critically acclaimed Chicago-based writer Fern Schumer Chapman has written several award-winning books including her memoir, Motherland, which was a finalist for the 2018 National Jewish Book Award. Memoriam From Page 10 At New Trier, Timmis also taught physical education, headed an advisory, and was an assistant badminton coach. Off the courts, she was highly respected by her peers. “Her colleagues valued her commitment to teach players that sportsmanship was an essential part of winning and being a good student in the classroom was as important as playing the games well on the tennis and badminton courts,” said former colleague Jim Marran. “She was a down to earth person, and a good, fun person,” said former colleague Jane Mc- Namara. “She liked everybody, and the kids really liked her.” In her private life, Timmis was always on the go. She was involved in tennis and softball leagues, skiing and traveling with her husband during, as he put it, “a wonderful 38 years of marriage.” She was also a seamstress, knitter, quilter, baker, cook, and a talented musician who enjoyed playing piano. As a member of senior citizen bands, she played the saxophone. Always deeply dedicated to family, her greatest joy in later life was spending time with her grandchildren. “We sort of had a hotel when our grandkids were growing up,” Tom Timmis said. “She was a very good family person and just a loving individual who enjoyed life.” Timmis is survived by her husband, Tom Timmis; two daughters, Ingeri Belill and Kirsten (Tim) Jura; step daughters Jill (Mark) Zimmer and Sara Timmis; grandchildren, Kylie (Matt) Bonnes, Kate (Ari) Mattson, Max Michaels, Tom Zimmer, Sam Timmis, Aniese, Troy, Nicolette and Natasha Jura, Lynn (Bryan) Gabriel, Claire, Leo and Joe Belill; five great grandchildren, Aase and Kai Mattson, Hannah and Sophia Bonnes and Beau Miller; and siblings, Hank, Ron, Chuck, Marcia, Jim, Kevin, Sanny and Scott. She is preceded in death by her oldest brother Warren “Toby” Hanson. Victor L. Weber Victor L. “Webs” Weber, Jr., 82, of Northbrook, died March 14. He was born Nov. 16, 1935, in Stillwater, Okla., and was the son of Victor L. Sr. and Dorothy Jane Stinson Weber. He married Lucerne C. Parks on June 16, 1957, in Ponca City, Okla., and she survives. He is also survived by five children, Natalie Lira (Pete) of Jacksonville, Angela McClane (George) of San Diego, Stephanie Lee Poetz of Graz, Austria, Victor K. Weber (Jessica) of Soldier, Idaho, and Zack Weber (Lisa) of Morton Grove; 13 grandchildren; two great grandchildren; two siblings, Jimmie Weber (Paulette) of Hot Springs, Ariz., and Norma J. Treat of Boise, Idaho; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles Weber and Malcolm Weber. Weber received a master’s degree from Oklahoma State University and completed further studies at the University of Pittsburgh prior to embarking on a distinguished career in public school teaching in many locations. Most recently, he taught at Glenbrook North High School. He had a talent for coaching young people in almost every sport all through the academic year, yet his true passion was found coaching high school varsity soccer. Weber was a member of Beta Theta Pi Fraternity and also served with the U.S. Army from 1957 to 1965. He was a member of North Suburban Evangelical Free Church in Deerfield. In his later years, Victor enjoyed hunting, woodworking, gardening and fishing with his grandkids in the Ozarks. Cremation has been accorded. Memorial gifts are suggested to North Suburban Church. Condolences may be sent to the family online at www.buchanancody.com . Florence W. Hindman Florence W. Hindman nee Russmann, 95, longtime resident of Northbrook, died March 1. She was born Dec. 8, 1922, in Chicago to the late Elizabeth and Raymond Russmann. Hindman has many fond memories growing up in the Illinois Masonic Children’s Home, where she met her beloved husband, the late John C. “Jack” Hindman. A loving mother of Robert (Kathy) Hindman and the late John C. (Ginny) Hindman, Jr.; cherished grandmother of Susan (Mehmet) Akpolat, Emily Hindman, Elizabeth (fiancé Ryan) Hindman, and Ross (Avalon) Hindman; proud great grandmother of Ava Akpolat; dear sister of the late Grace, Art, Ray, Eileen, Hank and Betty; caring aunt of many nieces and nephews. Stephen Foley, Sr. Stephen Foley, 92, died March 23. Throughout his life, Foley set an example of hard work, integrity, kindness, generosity and humility. He was born in Chicago, attended Quigley Preparatory Seminary and Mundelein Seminary, served in the army and graduated from Loyola University in 1948. He married the love of his life, Mercedes, April 26, 1952 and shortly after their marriage, he left his position at General Motors Acceptance Corporation (GMAC) to pursue a career in car sales at Hollingshead Oldsmobile on Chicago’s South Side. He moved from sales to management and in 1964, he became the dealer/ owner of Hollingshead Oldsmobile renamed Steve Foley’s Hollingshead Oldsmobile. In 1974, he sold the Oldsmobile dealership and purchased a Cadillac dealership in Northbrook renamed Steve Foley Cadillac. In 1983, he was vetted by Rolls-Royce and found worthy of the Rolls-Royce and Bentley franchises. Through the years, he purchased and sold several dealerships in Illinois, Wisconsin and Florida. At one time, he also owned and operated several tire and service centers throughout the Chicago area. He served for 19 years on the board of the Chicago Automobile Trade Association (CATA) and was chairman of the Chicago Auto Show in 1980. He was a member of the Cadillac Advertising Association and the National Dealer Council. He received the Distinguished Alumnus Award from Quigley Seminary in 1994. He was involved in and supported many charitable organizations. He and Mercedes served twice as chairpersons of the Loyola Stritch School of Medicine Awards Dinner. The dinner is the longest-running black-tie gala in Chicago and continues to raise hundreds of thousands of dollars for medical student scholarships. He was a great man, a gentleman who will be missed by all who knew him. He is survived by his beloved wife, Mercedes (nee Meyenberg); children, Mary Margaret, Cathy and Maureen (Richard Schabel) and Steve, Jr. (Barbara); grandchildren, Steve, Ryan, Mercedes Schabel and Richard Schabel; brother-inlaw, John Meyenberg; sistersin-law, Helene Meyenberg and Rosemary (Michael) Pavlo; 13 nieces and 13 nephews. Visitation Friday, April 6 from 9-11 a.m. at Wenban Funeral Home, 320 Vine Ave., Lake Forest, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:30 a.m. at the Church of St. Mary, 175 E. Illinois Rd., Lake Forest. After a while ... once I got more comfortable with that, I was able to get past it.” As one of the school’s youngest leads in recent memory, Dolins knows she couldn’t have landed the role without her time at GBN. “GBN did so much for me,” she said. “It has so many resources there ... the whole program was where I spent my entire four years.
