UEFA charges
Liverpool
UEFA HAVE opened up
disciplinary proceedings against
Liverpool with regard to the
events that surround Wednesday
night's Champions League tie with
Manchester City.
On Thursday afternoon, Liverpool were
charged with four separate offences -- the
setting off of fireworks, the throwing of
objects, acts of damage and crowd disturbances
-- by European football's governing body.
The charges of acts of damage and crowd
disturbances are in relation to the damage done
to the Manchester City team bus as it
approached Anfield ahead of the first leg of the
quarterfinal.
City were unable to use the coach for the
return journey to Manchester as it was damaged
when some Liverpool supporters threw objects
at it.
The case will be heard by the UEFA Control,
Ethics and Disciplinary Body on May 31, which
takes place five days after the Champions
League final in Kiev, Ukraine.
Liverpool issued a statement shortly before
kickoff on Wednesday, apologising to the
Manchester club and saying "the behaviour of a
number of individuals was completely
unacceptable" and that they would "cooperate
fully with the authorities to identify those
responsible."
Meanwhile, Merseyside police are appealing
for any footage of City's arrival after two
officers were injured. Manchester City assistant
coach Manel Estiarte posted footage from inside
the bus after the game.
Henrikh Mkhitaryan - Arsenal
I left Man United due
to lack of attacking
football — Mkhitaryan
HENRIKH MKHITARYAN has
told FourFourTwo he wanted to
join Arsenal because he "missed
playing offensively" at Manchester
United and was not signed to
replace Alexis Sanchez.
Mkhitaryan joined Arsenal in
January in a swap deal for Sanchez
and has had a flying start at the
Emirates with two goals and six
assists in 11 games.
It is a turnaround for his recent
form at United, where he had fallen
out of favour with Jose Mourinho,
and Mkhitaryan seemed to aim
another dig at the Portuguese
manager's playing style.
"When I heard I could swap
Man United for Arsenal, I said,
'Yes, I want to do that,'"
Mkhitaryan said. "I didn't think
twice. It's important for me to play
in an offensive team.
"I couldn't have imagined a
better start. I'd missed playing
offensively. I joined Arsenal
because [Arsene] Wenger wanted
me, not because he wanted to
replace Sanchez. We are different
players and characters, with
different abilities and skills, so I'll
try my best to do everything for the
club."
While Arsenal are in sixth place
in the Premier League, Mkhitaryan
has a chance to win the Europa
League for the second year in a
row.
"I want to write my name in
Arsenal's history and have my name
as a legend here," he said. "I want
to score goals, make assists and win
trophies to make the fans happy."
