THE REPRESENTATIVE 30 March 2018
ROUND&ABOUT
CONGRATULATIONS! Warren and Allison Lentoor were
married at the Wesley Methodist Church in Komani
recently
Picture: SUPPLIED
COUNTRY STYLE WEDDING: Jessica le Roux and Bryan Hansen were
recently married at Olive Rock in Ceres
Game-filled trip to the Kruger
Group of Komani bowlers have a ball in the Park
CHUX FOURIE
BOWLING members
of the Queenstown
Golf Club were
joined by former
members Serfie and Lucille
Serfontein of Jeffrey’s Bay,
Gerrie and Marina Marais
of Tarkastad and Lorraine
Hart of Gonubie recently for
a trip to the Kruger Park.
The cars left Komani
together and, after a very
long drive, arrived at
Waterval Onder to spend
the night at a guest house.
The next morning they
entered the park at its
southern end via Crocodile
Bridge to spend the
following three nights in
chalets at Lower Sabie.
Once settled in, each
group was free to do as
they pleased in terms of
times and routes to follow,
but they all had good
sightings of game including
large herds of giraffe and
huge herds of elephant
which one traveller
described as looking “like a
t rain”, prides of lions,
vultures and many other
birds and a special treat
BLOCKING THE WAY: In spite of his youth, this baby baboon sitting at the side of the
road in the Kruger Park was totally unfazed by passing traffic
Picture: GERHARD ODENDAAL
was seeing the elusive
leopard.
For their morning and
midday meals each carload
made their own plans, but
the whole group got
together in the evenings,
most often for a braai.
So, in typical South
African fashion, the men
gathered around the fire
and occasionally turned the
meat while the women
members of the touring
party took it in turns to do
the work.
From there they moved
on for two nights in the
relatively newly-established
Talamati bush camp further
north, which is really “in
the bush”. There are no
shops or other “mod cons”
but there are comfortable
chalets – and it is very
peaceful. The camp is
situated near waterholes,
hides and a dam where one
can sit quietly and
contentedly watch the
comings and goings.
After that they spent two
nights in the well-known
Pretoriuskop camp, which
some might regard as back
to civilisation as there are
shops, a petrol station and
so on. While there they had
great sightings of leopard,
hyena, rhino, hippos,
crocodiles and vultures
galore, among many
ot h e r s .
Faan and Antjie Corbett
love the Kruger and go
there often, so they were
able to give valuable
advice, resulting in a
well-thought-out,
well-organised,
well-planned and
thoroughly memorable
h o l i d ay.
The animals they saw
were sleek, the vegetation
was lush and while some
rivers were dry there were
plenty of waterholes and
the dams had water, all
adding to the pleasure.
For the return trip each
carload “did its own thing”
with regard to route, times
and so on and they
meandered home after a
wonderfully relaxing
holiday, filled with fun,
laughter and wonderful
memories.
LOOKING ON: Gerhard Odendaal took this picture of a
magnificent kudu bull in the Kruger Park which he
visited recently with other members of the Golf
Bowling Club
