16 Be our Guest

16 Be our Guest Ex-pupils of the old Abraham Guest School in Orrell are invited to a reunion. The reunion was originally publicised for the 2002 class, but organiser Chris Parkinson opened the event to all ex-pupils as he wanted it to feel like ‘more of a celebration than a reunion.’ Originally based on Orrell Road, Abraham Guest was demolished in 2010 and the school moved to Greenhey, off City Road, and changed its name last year to Dean Trust Wigan. Chris said: “Everyone was on about organising a reunion, so I thought I’d put something together. “But a lot of people were thinking ‘Oh I might not see anyone I know,’ and I didn’t want anyone to miss out, so I thought we should open it up to everyone. “Quite a few tickets have been sold at the pub, and I’ve sold quite a few personally. I keep putting reminders on FB to make sure people are aware. “I was a bit nervous at first wondering if people would turn up, but a lot of people are looking forward to it. “The DJ is going to put pictures on a screen, and I’m having a dance off with my old head of year Mr Jeff Balmer. “I thought it was a good thing to do. It’s where I grew up and the school holds some special memories. I’m definitely looking forward to it.” The reunion will be held at the Masonic Hall, Pemberton, on Saturday, April 28 at 7pm. If you’d like to attend, tickets are £7.50 and can be purchased from the White Swan pub in Pemberton.
