The country’s choirs rank among the world’s best ensembles and determine the level of international choir competitions in many years. The Swedish International Choir Competition

Sweden – home of outstanding choirs and unique choral sounds from Scandinavia – will host another international INTERKULTUR choir event in spring 2018, following a successful first edition in 2004. The country’s choirs rank among the world’s best ensembles and determine the level of international choir competitions in many years.

Fred Sjöberg<br />

General Artistic Director<br />

Fred Sjöberg har studerat sång och kördirigering<br />

på Örebro Musikpedagogiska Institut,<br />

numera Musikhögskolan i Örebro och på<br />

Kungliga Musikhögskolan i Stockholm. Han<br />

har studerat sång bland annat för prof Solvieg<br />

Grippe, dirigering för prof Eric Ericson<br />

and prof Helmuth Rilling. Under flera år sjöng<br />

han tenor i Sveriges Radios Kammarkör. Han<br />

är den förste dirigent som varit körledare för<br />

de tre största internationella ungdomskörerna,<br />

Världsungdomskören (1991 och 2005),<br />

Världskammarkören (1993) och Europeiska<br />

Ungdomskören (1999). Han har varit dirigent<br />

för Örebro Kammarkör sedan 1983 och firar<br />

35 år som körledare tillsammans med dem<br />

genom ett omfattande Bachprojekt att under<br />

2 år framföra Bach samtliga stora kör/orkesterverk..<br />

2000 blev han utsedd av FSK till ”Sveriges körledare”,<br />

2001 fick han Johannes Norrbymedaljen<br />

för förtjänstfullt arbete och utveckling av<br />

svenskt körliv. Han har varit musikalisk ledare<br />

för ”Toner för Miljoner” och ledare för Svenskt<br />

Körcentrum på dåvarande Rikskonserter,<br />

Stockholm. Han har varit chef för Svenskt Internationellt<br />

Körcentrum i Örebro, knutet till<br />

Länsmusiken i Örebro. Fred Sjöberg har varit<br />

vice president i Europa Cantat och ordförande<br />

i Europa Cantats musikkommission, han har<br />

också varit vice president i IFCM liksom att<br />

under många år varit medlem i FSK:s styrelse<br />

liksom i KÖRSAM:s styrelse. Sedan 2015 är<br />

han gästprofessor vid Ionian University i Grekland<br />

och General Artistic Director för INTER-<br />

KULTUR.<br />

Fred Sjöberg has graduated as singer and choral<br />

conductor at the Royal Academy of Music<br />

in Stockholm and Örebro. Among others he<br />

has studied with Prof. Solvieg Grippe, Prof.<br />

Eric Ericson and Prof. Helmuth Rilling. He has<br />

also been a tenor in the Swedish Radio Chamber<br />

Choir. He has been the first conductor to<br />

conduct the three major international youth<br />

choirs as World Youth Choir (1991 and 2005),<br />

World Chamber Choir (1993) and European<br />

Youth Choir (1999). He has been the conductor<br />

of Örebro Chamber Choir since 1983 and<br />

he celebrates his 35 years as conductor with<br />

them with a big Bach project that under 2 years<br />

perform all major choral/orchestral work<br />

by J S Bach.<br />

In 2000 he was appointed as the “Conductor<br />

of the Year” in Sweden by SCDA (Swedish Choral<br />

Directors Association) appointed with the<br />

Johannes Norrby Medallion for outstanding<br />

and 2001 service and development to the<br />

Swedish Choral Life.<br />

He has been the Music Director and conductor<br />

of the project “Notes for Millions” as well<br />

as Music Director of the Swedish Choral Centre<br />

at Rikskonserter, Stockholm. He has also been<br />

Music Director of Swedish International Choral<br />

Centre in Örebro.<br />

Fred Sjöberg has been Vice President of Europa<br />

Cantat, President of the Music Commission<br />

of Europa Cantat and has also been Vice President<br />

of IFCM. From 2015 Sjöberg is visiting<br />

professor at the Ionian University in Greece<br />

and General Artistic Director of INTERKULTUR.
