every day? <strong>The</strong><br />
only reason people<br />
continue to park<br />
is because they get<br />
away with it! I live in the area and<br />
have seen it on my street. Once<br />
the cars are ticketed more than<br />
once, they stop parking there.<br />

illegal because the CCC created<br />
bylaws to try and fix a problem<br />
that was of its own making by<br />
allowing a developer to build and<br />
have insufficient car parking for<br />
the use intended of the premises.<br />
When the Styx development was<br />
proposed neighbouring residents<br />
were very concerned about the<br />
lack of parking within the centre<br />
and the impact of staff parking in<br />
streets around the development.<br />
<strong>The</strong> developer and the CCC did<br />
not care at all. When Botany<br />
Town Centre (Auckland) was<br />
built the local council insisted<br />
that all staff car parking had to be<br />
on site.<br />

at the business park if you<br />
want to pay for it, it’s just horrendously<br />
expensive if your work<br />
place is too tight to pay<br />
for parking for you and<br />
each business only gets<br />
allocated a certain number<br />
of parks. I worked<br />
there for 18 months and<br />
had one car written off<br />
thanks to someone wiping<br />
out three cars plus<br />
himself, as we use to park<br />
on Russley Rd opposite<br />
but when they took that away<br />
it just moved the problem and<br />
made it worse.<br />

Injecting light and life<br />
NEARLY 400 people and<br />
organisations have taken the<br />
time to submit on our Long<br />
Term Plan, and what a diversity<br />
of views they bring to the table.<br />
I really enjoy listening to what<br />
people have to say.<br />
We had a real thrill this week<br />
to hear what is planned to<br />
replace the ANZ building on the<br />
corner of Cathedral Square.<br />
<strong>The</strong> submitter was asking us<br />
to bring forward funding to do<br />
the work that needs to be done<br />
on the south side of Cathedral<br />
Square. He talked about how<br />
the private sector was making<br />
an enormous investment – the<br />
Distinction Hotel, the Spark<br />
building (which will include a<br />
hospitality venue on its roof) and<br />
this new one.<br />
He was saying that the city<br />
needed to provide the right<br />
environment to support these<br />
businesses that were opening up<br />
these north facing buildings to<br />
the Square.<br />
He then showed us the image<br />
of the new building. It has been<br />
designed by no less than Shigeru<br />
Ban, who gave us the Transitional<br />
Cathedral and it is stunning.<br />
