Too easy. Jaed During - Funny. Didn’t a bar lose its operating licence because it didn’t provide enough car parks? I loathe hypocrisy! We have had the opportunity through natural disaster to do things effectively with our city and yet here’s another example that those in power (and on high incomes) are incompetent. Sheryl Rodgers - Why is they not out there ticketing them every day? The only reason people continue to park is because they get away with it! I live in the area and have seen it on my street. Once the cars are ticketed more than once, they stop parking there. Alistair Price - It is only illegal because the CCC created bylaws to try and fix a problem that was of its own making by allowing a developer to build and have insufficient car parking for the use intended of the premises. When the Styx development was proposed neighbouring residents were very concerned about the lack of parking within the centre and the impact of staff parking in streets around the development. The developer and the CCC did not care at all. When Botany Town Centre (Auckland) was built the local council insisted that all staff car parking had to be on site. Paula Jones – There’s parking at the business park if you want to pay for it, it’s just horrendously expensive if your work place is too tight to pay for parking for you and each business only gets allocated a certain number of parks. I worked there for 18 months and had one car written off thanks to someone wiping out three cars plus himself, as we use to park on Russley Rd opposite but when they took that away it just moved the problem and made it worse. I really enjoy listening to what people have to say. We had a real thrill this week to hear what is planned to replace the ANZ building on the corner of Cathedral Square. The submitter was asking us to bring forward funding to do the work that needs to be done on the south side of Cathedral Square. He talked about how the private sector was making an enormous investment – the Distinction Hotel, the Spark building (which will include a hospitality venue on its roof) and this new one. He was saying that the city needed to provide the right environment to support these businesses that were opening up these north facing buildings to the Square. He then showed us the image of the new building. It has been designed by no less than Shigeru Ban, who gave us the Transitional Cathedral and it is stunning.
