Walk bridge-to-bridge
with the Sun June 23
If you’ve lived in Bremerton awhile,
chances are you’ve hiked “the bridges,”
a three-mile loop encompassing Bremerton’s
two spans over the Port Washington
Narrows.
While cars might’ve been the rationale
for construction of the Manette
Bridge (originally built 1930 and replaced
in 2011) and the Warren Avenue
Bridge (built in 1958), the crossings also
created a three-mile loop that many locals
use for everything from a morning
stroll to an impromptu 5k.
This year brings some added nostalgia,
as Manette marks its centennial of
joining the city of Bremerton.
To help celebrate, Kitsap Sun reporter
Josh Farley has developed a free
bridge-to-bridge trail guide that will be
unveiled at the Sun’s latest Story Walk
June 23.
The walks, to begin at the park at
8 a.m., 10:30 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3:30 p.m.,
are free to attend and will uncover mysteries
and curiosities along the entire
three-mile loop.
