The prestigious New Zealand Scholarship awards offer financial rewards for those going onto full-time tertiary study. Four prefab buildings have been purchased for the Windermere Rd site, where the youth and community organisation has been based since 2002. There is also a chapel on the site which was built in the 1930s. It will remain and be renovated. The “historical” site was once home to two schools – Loreto College, 1930-1978, and Koinonia Christian School, 1981-2000. General manager Jono Campbell hopes the relocation more scholarships. We can use this to meet our own staff and community needs. We have more than 30 staff on site . . . we particularly want to create a space for our young people . . . and we also want the new developments to reflect the Maori history in Papanui,” he said. The group also hopes to build an administration block and a multi-use space which can be used by the community.
