dropped in North America
to 57,6% with 10,6% going to
Europe; 13,2% to Asia-Pacific
; 9,9% to Latin America, and
8,4% to Africa and the Middle
East which, for this area, was
almost double its “intake” of
piston-powered aircraft.
BUSINESS JETS
The figures for corporate jets
showed that, in the United
States, 396 were delivered
during 2016 as against only
50 in Europe with total world
deliveries standing at 661 as
against a total of 582 for all
other turbine-powered aircraft,
single or multi.
Bombardier’s Challenger 350
outsold all other corporate jets
in the market with 61 being
delivered during the period under
review with the new Global
5000 and Global 6000 coming
in close behind with 51 sales
recorded during the period and
long before they were ready for
entry into service.
In all, Bombardier sold 163
corporate jets in 2016 valued at
US$5,87-billion.
French manufacturer, Dassault
Aviation, sold 49 Falcon
1000S/ 2000LXS/ 900LX/ 7X
and 8X valued at $2,17-billion
while Gulfstream delivered 115
corporate jets (models 150/
280/ 450 / 550/ 650/ 650ER)
during the period valued at
$6,23billion.
The Phenom 300 was the
Brazilian manufacturer’s best
seller with 63 aircraft from a
total of 117 of its aircraft range
delivered earning the company
some US$1,5-billion.
The new Hondajet logged 23
deliveries that year while extra
Aircraft recorded 27 deliveries
of its EA 300.
Textron Aviation’s Cessna
Citation Jet division logged over
170 delivered of all its eight
corporate jet types, with the
new Citation Latitude emerging
as the most popular with 42 deliveries
followed closely by the
Citation M2 having logged 38.
The GAMA survey dealt with
approximately 200 different
types of aircraft and helicopters
as well as a fairly high percentage
of military types, predominately

HE LATEST report produced by
the US-based General Aviation
Manufacturers’ Association (GAMA) for
2016 reveals that Textron Aviation’s Cessna
and Beechcraft divisions jointly delivered
the largest number of aircraft during the
year under review, namely 479 of all the
divisions’ types, of which the biggest individual
seller was the Cessna 172 Skyhawk
which scored 100 deliveries.
Textron Aviation’s best Beechcraft seller
was the Bonanza G36 which logged 25
deliveries. The Cessna 172 Skyhawk is
arguably the oldest individual Cessna type
and the Bonanza is now in its 70th year of
production, although its current design is
a lot different from what it was when the
type made its maiden flight in 1947.
The aircraft manufacturer which ranked
second in the highest number sold during
2016 was Airbus Helicopter which logged
380 of all marques with the H-125 / H-125m
helicopters being the most popular. Cirrus
Aircraft filled the third slot with a recorded
320 sold of which the SR22T sold 149 units
and the SR22, chalking up 133 sales.
Coming in fourth with a total of 234
deliveries, was Robinson Helicopters which
had its R44 Raven collect 114 sales and its
new jet helicopter, the R66, some 63 orders
and deliveries.
Italy-based Leonardo scored 172 sales
overall with its AWII 139 (63) and AW 169
(22) being the best sellers.
Worldwide the number of single-engine
piston-powered aircraft delivered in 2016
was 890 and multi-engine pistons types
was 129 making 1019 piston-powered
aircraft new in the air.
Of these, 685 singles and 33 were produced
in the United States and 277 singles
Cessna 172 skyhawk
Cirrus sr22
and 106 twins in Europe. Piston-powered
general aviation aircraft -both single engine
and twins - are still holding on to their slender
lead over the growing turboprop types.
In all, 467 single turboprops were produced
compared with the piston total of
890 and 115 multi-engine turboprops as
against 129 piston-powered twins.
In all, 2 262 piston and turboprop singles
and twins worth over $20,7- billion were
delivered worldwide during 2016 according
these GAMA figures. In addition, there
were 224 piston single-engine helicopters
and 693 twin turbine helicopters delivered
during the year under review worth almost
$4,1-billion.
Approximately 70 percent of all piston-engine
aircraft (single and multi) were
delivered to United States customers;
10,1% went to Europe; 10,2% to Asia-Pacific;
5,8% to Latin America and a scant 4,3%
to the Middle East and Africa. Turbo-
