Community Projects<br />
Community projects designed and implemented<br />
by Youth Commissioners in consultation<br />
with community partners focussed<br />
on enhancing the lives <strong>of</strong> young<br />
people and providing opportunities to<br />
build community and pride. Projects<br />
were closely aligned to a number <strong>of</strong> recommendations<br />
arising from policy instruments<br />
that shaped youth development in<br />
Barbados and the Caribbean. These included:<br />
The National Youth Policy <strong>of</strong><br />
Barbados <strong>2011</strong>; Caricom Youth Development<br />
Action Plan 2012-2017; Commonwealth<br />
Plan <strong>of</strong> Action for Youth<br />
Empowerment (PAYE) 2007-2015;<br />
UNDP Youth strategy.<br />
Some <strong>of</strong> the goals <strong>of</strong> these projects included:<br />
Building stronger community awareness;<br />
Community empowerment;<br />
Development <strong>of</strong> community leaders;<br />
Employment creation;<br />
HIV and AIDS prevention.<br />
Figure 4 provides a breakdown <strong>of</strong> projects undertaken for the financial year<br />
<strong>2011</strong>/<strong>2016</strong>.<br />
