Preface This collection of sermons from 1895 appear to be unique in several regards, as we consider them historically from Ellen White’s perspective: 1. She was present in person to hear them preached. 2. She described them in what could be called “Acts 2 Pentecostal” terms. 3. Her secretary took them down in shorthand. Here are samples of her descriptions: • Instruction precious as gold • A feast of precious things • The truth in new lines • The truth in clear and simple style, yet rich in nourishment • The burning words of truth as heard in 1844 • A glorious and convincing light • Hardly a discourse that could be called a doctrinal sermon • In every sermon Christ preached 2
• Exalting Jesus higher and yet higher • Nothing but the plain gospel These are the themes she listed as presented regarding Jesus: • His preexistence • His personal dignity • His work as Creator • His relation to the Sabbath • His relation to man as the source of life • His holy law uplifted • His Presence and work in the hearts of men • His coming the second time in glory and power The reaction of unbelievers she described in these words: • Are deeply interested • Turn pale and say, “That man is inspired” • Listen as if spellbound • Sit with their eyes riveted in amazement • Say, “All the words are precious” • Say, “I have never attended meetings where 3
