Can We Keep <strong>the</strong> Commandments?<br />

When we thus learn from <strong>the</strong> Scriptures that<br />

keeping <strong>the</strong> commandments is manifesting <strong>the</strong><br />

character of God, we may say, It is impossible for<br />

us to do that. That is a good beginning. We cannot<br />

do it, that is true. But who did keep <strong>the</strong><br />

commandments?--Jesus Christ. And who can do it<br />

over again, even in sinful flesh?--Jesus Christ. And<br />

how shall we walk as He walked? “And what<br />

agreement hath <strong>the</strong> temple of God with idols? for<br />

ye are <strong>the</strong> temple of <strong>the</strong> living God; as God hath<br />

said, I will dwell in <strong>the</strong>m, and walk in <strong>the</strong>m; and I<br />

will be <strong>the</strong>ir God, and <strong>the</strong>y shall be My People.” (2<br />

Cor. 6:16) God dwelt in Christ and walked in<br />

Christ. Christ was <strong>the</strong> branch unto God that He<br />

might be <strong>the</strong> vine unto us, that <strong>the</strong> life through Him<br />

might flow into us as branches, that we might bear<br />

<strong>the</strong> fruit of <strong>the</strong> vine.<br />

“He that saith he abideth in Him ought himself<br />

also so to walk even as He walked.” Let <strong>the</strong><br />

scripture tell how He walked: “I have kept my<br />

Fa<strong>the</strong>r’s commandments.” The life of God abides<br />
