Competition began on Saturday morning at the Iba
Swimming Pool, before moving on to the beach
events in the afternoon. The pool events included
the Rescue Tube Tow, where contestants swim the
length of the pool with a rescue tube, rescue the
‘victim’ and tow him/her back to the starting point.
Also included was a 200 meter Obstacle Relay race;
the Manikin Carry where a manikin is submerged
at the center of the pool and a lifesaver swims to
the manikin, dives, retrieves the manikin and swims
with it in the Rescue Position to end of the pool;
and a Line Throw event. On completion of the pool
events competitors, officials and organizers
adjourned to the Palmera Beach Resort for a
delicious lunch hosted by the resort. Following
lunch the teams prepared for the beach events of:
Run-Swim-Run medley relay; the Lifeguard Challenge
relay and the Rescue Tube and Transfer relay. After a
vigorous day’s competition it was time to relax and
ready both mind and body for the Sunday beach
events, due to start at 8am.
After a good night’s rest, the excited teams arrived
at beautiful Palmera beach early on Sunday morning
looking disgustingly fit and healthy, all full of
enthusiasm for the competition. Sunday’s events
consisted of the Beach Flag (an individual elimination)
relay, the Rescue Board and Transfer relay, and the
