Westonians Report & 40th Year Celebration The Westonians Committee for 2011 was Graeme Barton, President, Tony Davidson, Vice President, Kerry Carn, Secretary, Nick Diasinas , Treasurer, Committee Members, John Pirakis, John Flanigan, David Saint, Bernie Conlen, Chris Higgins, Troy Abbott, Craig Lewis and Jim Diamanti. 2011 was the 40th Anniversary of the Westonians after being established in 1971. From a room under the grandstand to a transportable building. Then in 1981 with the addition to the Footballer’s Club, the transportable building was sold by the Westonians and with a massive fund raising effort $60,000 was paid for the Westonians rooms as it currently sits. In 1994 major alterations were made to the Westonians lounge. To commemorate the 40th year, the Committee decided that a new honour board would be erected to note the individual years of elected office bearers of the Committee, Life Members and 10 year Committee service. Life Members Jack Smith and Reg Henderson unveiled the honour roll at the AGM. This year, the Committee awarded Life Member ship to Clive Sperling (posthumously), and this was accepted by his son Paul Sperling. Clive joins other Life Members of the Westonians including Reg Henderson, Jack Smith, Norm Hay, John Pirakis, Nick Diasinas, Kerry Carn and John Flanigan. The Westonians have raised in excess of $1 million over the 40 years for the WAFC. This year, the Westonians sponsored Ben Macreadie, provided best player vouchers for the U/18’s and U/16’s, (this has been done for years), and provided silver goblets and a plaque to James Ezard and Daniel Caire who reached their 100 league games milestone. We also presented the Keith Reynolds Memorial Trophy for the best first year player to come up through the ranks to Chris Bonney. The Westonians have raised and donated money towards the electronic scoreboard, computers for players to review game video, the decking outside the Mound Bar and the provision of new air conditioning for the players change room area. This year, the Westonians also funded the new carpet in the upstairs ball room. I would like to thank Steve Morris for his liaison role between the Westonians and players and his role in the after match interviews. This year the Westonians donated $36,718.95 to the WAFC. A big thank you to the Committee for the hard work and organisational skills in raising this amount.
