to the southern suburbs with
the grand opening of its newest
store at 180 Orland Park
Place in Orland Park.
Ashley HomeStore is inviting
the public to experience
the its brand of furniture
and mattress shopping,
and have some fun at its
newest store. The event is
slated to begin with a ribbon
cutting ceremony at 8:45
a.m. Saturday, July 21. The
first 50 guests will receive
$50 Ashley HomeStore gift
cards. The first 200 will receive
high-quality Bluetooth
headphones.
Throughout the day, guests
can enjoy food and refreshments.
They also can spin
a wheel to win small prizes
such as tumblers, wine
glasses, tape measures and
chances to enter the money
machine. Guests also can
enter to win up to $15,000 in
prize giveaways that include
a $1,000 dining room, $1,500
bedroom, $2,000 living room
and a 65-inch Smart TV valued
at $1,200 or a $250 gift
card to shop at Ashley Home-
Store.
Face painters, balloon artists

Street Team spinning popular

will provide family-friendly
entertainment. Local children’s
authors Lisa J. Becker
and Evelyn Sanchez will
do book readings and signings
of their books, “Azure
House” and “Diego’s New
America.”
With every mattress sold,
a portion of the proceeds will
go toward Ashley Home-
Store’s Hope to Dream Program
that helps a child get a
good night sleep. For seven
years, the company’s program
has been helping underprivileged
children between
the ages of 3 and 16 who are
without beds, and families
who earn low incomes, live
in poverty or are transitioning
from a homeless situation.
The event is to run from 9
a.m.-1 p.m. July 21.
Loyola Medicine, Palos
Health first in Illinois to offer
MRI-guided radiation therapy
The Loyola Center for
Cancer Care & Research at
Palos Health South Campus
in Orland Park is the first
center in Illinois — and fifth
in the country — to offer an
MRI-guided radiation therapy
that targets tumors with
millimeter precision.
Called MRIdian Linac, the
FDA-cleared system delivers
radiation precisely to the
tumor, even if body functions
such as breathing cause the
tumor to move during the radiation
treatment. The ultrasharp
beam of radiation minimizes
damage to surrounding
tissue.
The new system enables
clinicians to precisely locate,
target and track the position
and shape of tumors as they
move in the body.
The system uses a machine
called a linear accelerator,
or linac. The accelerator
shoots electrons at
a metal target at nearly the
speed of light, transforming
them into photons.
A beam of high-energy photons
then is precisely aimed
at the tumor, killing cancer
cells.
Traditional linear accelerators
employ CT scans taken
ahead of time to align the tumor
with the radiation beam.
The new system uses MR
imaging, which is far superior
to CT scans in showing
soft tissues. And unlike the
CT scans, the MR imaging
is done during the radiation
session. This allows the clinician
to adapt in real time,
reshaping the radiation beam
to match the patient.
The MRI-guided system
can be used on any solid tumor
and is especially effective
in treating soft tissue tumors
in the pancreas, kidney,
adrenal glands, liver, brain
and central nervous system.
The MRIdian Linac installation
is the result of a
partnership between Loyola
Medicine and Palos Health to
bring renowned oncology expertise,
technology, and coordinated
and collaborative
care to patients in the Chicago’s
southwest suburbs.
As an academic medical
center, the Loyola Center
for Cancer Care & Research
at Palos Health South
Campus will offer patients
access to cancer clinical
trials.
The center offers patients
academic care from an integrated
team of cancer subspecialists,
including boardcertified,
fellowship-trained
medical oncologists, surgical
oncologists, radiation
oncologists and radiologists.
The center is located on
the ground level of a new
52,000-square-foot facility
owned by Palos Health at
15300 West Ave. in Orland
Park.
In addition to cancer care,
Loyola Medicine at Palos
Health South Campus is
to include physician office
space, an outpatient surgery
center and specialty care, including
audiology, diabetes
education, endocrinology,
gastroenterology, gynecology,
hepatology, neurology,
neurosurgery, ophthalmology,
otolaryngology (earnose-throat),
orthopaedics,
pain management, and plastic
and reconstructive surgery.
