THE SUPER FAMILY TYLER What I love about my dad is that he tries his hardest to play in games and training as well and I love how he talks about his fans. If it wasn’t for them he wouldn’t even be a rugby player. When people ask me how is it to have a dad who’s a rugby player I just say its not all that different from a normal dad to be honest just what’s different is that he’s on TV, that’s basically it. When he gets asked for autographs and pictures I think he’s loved by a whole lot of people. Yes he might be a rugby player smashing everyone but my dad can be so embarrassing - and I mean it. Once when we went to town he heard ‘Call me maybe’ by Carly Rea Jepson he started dancing in the middle of town - oh my god I just like walked away like I don’t know him. My dads biggest fear is spiders my god it was funny the last time he seen one! Me and him were watching a film I was a sleep and my feet was on his lap and he was watching it then when he seen the spider he jumped up I woke up scared as I said what’s happened he said TYLER THERE’S A SPIDER OMG! I couldn’t get sleep I was laughing too much. My dad, I think his best position is wing because when the other team try and make a trick my dad can just bash them and then you’re like yes Bennie Westwood better try harder next time I love when that happens. Well there’s so much more why I love my dad but I think it will be too long (he he) so that means that it from me his daughter Tyler Westwood. MY HERO.. MY PARTNER.. MY ROCK How do you write about Super Bennie Westwood on one page. It’s gonna be tougher for me to do this, than any game he’s played. I remember asking him once if he could go play a game and play rubbish? It was around the time of the match fixing in the news and I know it was in other sports but I was curious. His reply, was, “not a chance”... He said, when he goes on that pitch he couldn’t ever do anything other than his best whether he wanted to or not! He has proven over the years, Since that day, that he may give penalties away, he may drop balls, but no one can ever say he didn’t give 100% .... he thrives on doing well...he buzzes off it. But I think the biggest one was the Wigan game this year in August 2012. .. The whole stadium sang loud and proud... Super Bennie Westwood, Tyler our 11 year old daughter experienced her first emotion at the game she said it was the best feeling ever. I don’t allow him to dwell on the downfalls too much, like last years semi and Leeds won. I went to bed I couldn’t watch it ...I was gutted when he got back, but I told him straight. No time for sad faces onward we go, we have children who don’t want daddy sad! Ask anyone who knows him he has a huge heart, he’s never moody, and can’t bear to fall out with no one. If he wants a rant he has one at home, but as big as he is, he doesn’t scare me....ha ha ...he wishes he could. He’s terrified of spiders, he would never hurt or kill one.... because he would never get within a six mile radius if he knew where it was. I always remember he was feeding Gracey one evening, all of a sudden he started screaming my name ..I just thought “oh my god there’s something Wrong with the baby”. I went racing in to the lounge and he was sat there , legs up, curled on the couch in a ball. My heart was in my mouth. Baby was fast asleep beside him .... and he was mumbling about a big spider what had fallen off the curtain. Ha. Ha. For a week he went on the playstation In that room with his legs up. I think, he thinks they only walk on the floor. The first house we lived in when we moved here was where the old bowling green was near Morrisons in Stocky Heath. One day he was clearing out the shed and I was pottering about in the garden, the next minute he set off running up the street and screaming , he rang me five minutes later to tell me he saw a mouse... which ok ...I’m not fond of stuff like that myself. ..but he carried on running and didn’t stop till he got to Morrisons!! About 500 yards up the road, I’m not having that!!. Watching him play on the field he doesn’t stop for nobody. He smashes anything in his path. It’s hard to believe he would be terrified of a mouse or spider. But he is!! He is big gentle giant, not a bad bone in his body. I admire him so much for how he has coped with everything.... he has never had a day off work, he wouldn’t dream of taking a sicky. He very rarely drinks as he is dedicated to the game. Not bad for a young lad of 17 to give his life to the game and do so well. I’m 12 years older than him...He always tells our 3 Children “I stole his youth” It’s. 1 of my greatest achievements ..and I always remind him ....that whenever you see a great man...look carefully because there is always an even greater woman behind him. All the very best Ben you deserve it. Debbie BEN AND ME!!!! Stepdad - nah! Mate-yeah! I have Never had a father son relationship with Ben... my own father Lee has always been in my life, I didn’t need another one thank-you. One dad is enough for anyone!! There has certainly been tons of funny things happen over the years...far too many to mention. . but Bens Lived with my mum since I was 4 yrs old so we have formed a relationship like best mates. I tell Ben stuff I wouldn’t tell my mum & dad, it’s always been like that. He as always encouraged me playing rugby and came to all my games to watch me. Cheered me on and toughened me up. He has always been very competitive in every game we played against each other regardless to what game it was ignoring my mums pleas to just let me win!! I remember us playing dead lions one year at Xmas day night... me and Ben we’re the lions, my mum was the watcher. She was tickling him and everything and he wouldn’t move ...not a chance. In the end my mum and me went to bed and left him downstairs on the floor, he had been that hell bent on winning he had fallen fast asleep. My dad Lee coached my team at Normanton knights...him and Ben have always been mates, but they both had different ideas about how they wanted me to play. My dad had to teach me the way it says in the book, but Ben had an entirely different approach...... On match day there would be Ben running along one side of the field shouting and calling at me to go all the way and score.... then there would be my dad shouting at the other side telling me to pass it out. We have to laugh now, but it was very confusing at the time. It was eventually accepted by us all ...as the way it would always be. Ben’s just like that, there was never no malice. ....It was me that ended up confused, lol!! They both wanted me to exceed and play my game, so it was meant well. Thanks for everything you have given and done for me over the years pal. I have been so lucky to be part of it all with you... I have some great memories. You may have turned out the best player in action, but ill still kick your asse on fifa anytime!!! Hope you enjoy every minute of your testimonial year Ben, you deserve it.
