The analysis of roundwood and sawnwood production in selected European
Union countries

Abstract: The analysis of roundwood and sawnwood production in selected European Union countries. In this
paper production, export and import of roundwood and sawnwood of selected European Union countries. were
analysed. This values analysis can provide many useful data for further, more detailed analysis, primarily in the
competitiveness analysis of individual wood industry enterprise, but also the domestic wood industry sector
competitiveness compared to other countries.
Keywords: roundwood, sawnwood, production analysis, competitiveness.
INTRODUCTION
The roundwood and sawnwood production volume analysis is very important for wood
industry companies. It can provide many useful information for the company management,
but the analysis may provide many data to other entities, namely the statistical offices. This
data can be used in predicting future trends and facilitate taking appropriate strategic
decisions.
RESULTS
In this paper the analysis of roundwood and sawnwood production and some values of
export and import in three European countries: Czech Republic, Poland and Slovakia were
analysed. In the calculation the Eurostat and OECD data from 2004 to 2008 were used. The
results were shown in table 1.

Table 1 data analysis shows that in year 2005, compared to the 2004 a roundwood
production in Poland and the Czech Republic has decreased (by 2,41% and 0,58%). This
decreases however, can be regarded as negligible, because previous years data shows that
both countries have significantly increased the roundwood production after their accession to
the European Union (in the Czech Republic the increase of roundwood production in 2004
