VILLAGE CARE
OPEN GARDENS
Village Care ran a highly successful Open
Gardens. On a hot sunny Summer afternoon, on
the first day of July, a record number (328) of
people turned out to view the 10 Open Gardens
that were on display around the centre of our
quintessential English village.
Of added interest this year, was the significant
number of folk from outside Penn & Tylers
Green...testament perhaps to the wider publicity
employed on a couple of gardening websites in
addition to our local Village Voice and the smart
boards around the village from Savills.
The fine weather also encouraged folk to
consume more tea and cake both at ‘the
Sanctuary’ (St Margaret’s Church Hall) and
especially at Mary Coker’s very hospitable
garden ‘pit stop’...to the extent that another
record was set in takings here. Special thanks
www.pennandtylersgreen.org.uk
go to to Mary and her family for this wonderful
service, and to our local sponsor, ‘fm’, who also
supplied an added nice touch within their swish
wallet containing the garden map route and pen:
a Honey Bee flower mix of seeds!
All in all, a lovely warm atmosphere...
physically and emotionally...over our Village
that Sunday afternoon which resulted in just
over £2000 being raised for our Village Care
charity to donate, in the coming year, to local
worthy causes, such as the defibrillator now
positioned outside the Middle School for the
benefit of the whole community.
We are hugely grateful to the local folk who
so generously open their lovely gardens each
year as well as those who view them and
contribute so much to the ability of Village Care
to meaningfully give back to this lovely
community of which we are all so privileged to
be a part of.
We would like to give you advance
warning that we will hold our AGM on
Friday 12th October in St. Margaret's
Church Sanctuary, at 7.30 for 8 pm. It
is usually a short meeting with lots of
wine and nibbles (before, during and
after).
Please come and meet your fellow
volunteers, and bring anyone you can
think of who might join our ranks; we
always need new telephonists and
drivers. We are still looking for a new
Treasurer. If anyone wishes to drive, run
the telephone, or be our Treasurer,
please ring me Peter Sachs 257823
