Southeast Regional VP by Kent Sheets Southeast Regional VP SheetsKent@aol.com As this issue arrives in your homes, I hope you are enjoying the fall season and preparing for the holidays. For my wife and me, it is always a time for family and friends. We have been blessed with wonderful family and friends. Life is good and we are very grateful. May the blessing of these holidays be with you, your family, and your friends. In Florida, the cool weather has returned along with our winter visitors, the “snowbirds.” I hope to see many of you from the southeast at Florida Clown Day on Saturday, February 9, 2013 in Largo, FL. In February, in Fort Myers, FL, we always look forward to The Edison Festival of Lights Parade, one of the largest night-time parades in the state. Then on April 16-21 we will be gathering for Catching the Spirit of Richmond, the 2013 COAI annual convention in Richmond, VA. I hope you are making plans to join us. Smile! Have Fun! I have a few coins if that would help. Actually, I am Judy “Dear Heart” Quest and I am the new North Central Regional Vice President. I am ever so eager to do a good job. I sent out a survey in July and only got one reply! I would love to hear your opinions, visit you in person or talk on Skype. I would just love to get to know all of you sweet little pea pickin’ folks. We could have so much fun together. Mideast Regional VP Willy McGinnis Mideast Regional VP characterguy50@yahoo.com I had already been in communication with several alleys, so I was able hit the ground running the day Mike Cox told me that I was newly elected Mideast Regional Vice President. I received congratulations from my fellow officers and John Kral who ran a good race with me. I would like to thank all the voters who had faith in me to fulfill the office I now hold, and to John for passing on some info on previous ambassadors. I had read in the New Calliope that five of the alleys in the region were not submitting reports; I immediately decided these alleys could be in trouble. I approached the Jubilee Jesters in Virginia Beach and attended a meeting on June 12th where I confirmed that they were in trouble, lacking officers and support. I offered a bit of assistance, but this will not be a simple fix. Located in a vacation spot, they do not have the activity or the membership of the regular alleys. I will require support from my other Virginia alleys to help rebuild them. Mind you I was not even officially in office when I made this visit. The kudos from fellow officers and clown friends were all the payment I needed to make me move ever forward. Unfortunately the list of ambassadors was short and I was only able to contact two. I am asking for all ambassadors in the Mideast to contact me. I still have four other alleys in jeopardy and because they are located in several states, I will not be able to commute to all of them. In July, I was in touch with local alleys Freestate and Kapitol Klowns. I will continue to try to contact all of the alleys that I haven’t heard from yet. In August, I was able to speak with the Inky Clowns of Louisville and Frank Rehnquist of Luv N Laffs. I was able to get on their email lists to keep up with events they take part in. My plan is to get out to see them in next few months for a meeting or event and to offer a program to let them know we are there as COAI. I would like also to hear from each of my alleys, as the contacts I have are not necessarily current and I have no way to contact you otherwise. I need to know if you are still meeting in the same places and the names of your officers so I can get together with them to help you. I want to come to your alley and I want to know you and work with you to rebuild a strong bond with COAI. I want to build stronger ties that bring clowns and alleys closer to COAI. As our new president has said, unity among the clown membership is essential to rebuild and grow. I would like to promote that unity within the Mideast so that the Mideast can be leaders to the rest of the regions. All competitiveness aside, save that for the competitions, outside conventions and those competitions we are all brothers and sisters in clown heart, and we need to assist each other in order to grow. In the past there were a handful of small alleys, and eventually they reached out to other groups or alleys nearby. It is the culmination of the work of all those alleys that made up the original COA and then COAI. These alleys were supportive of one another making them strong. So I wish to rebuild that bond and that strength, that love that made them so great in the beginning. We are all clowns and we need to look at this as clowns who are supportive of each other. It is almost as if we are family in the extended way, and families stick together no matter what! I will try to make a tour with educational materials and answers to the questions I know are out there. Who doesn’t love the fun of an auction? Once again this year at our COAI convention you have the opportunity to attend a fun-filled auction for a great cause. The auction supports our scholarship fund and helps clowns to grow and learn. I can’t think of a better reason to attend, and it’s always a hilarious, great time! We also need your support. Spring is really just around the corner, so perhaps it’s time to do a little early spring cleaning. You sure don’t want to end up on “Clown Hoarders Buried Alive!” So, check out those clown closets, ruffle up those storage bins and dig out the dugery of unused or gently used together. I am your new Mideast RVP and I want you to be part of my new team. Please feel free to contact me with info on your alleys and yourself, so that I can have a good idea of who I’m working with. When you bought them they were going to be just the thing you needed, but you never did use them. Pass it on! Perhaps you have some wonderful clown memorabilia, autographs, pictures, prints, collectables or other fun items that might be of interest to another clown bidder. Send it over! We will gladly add them to our auction and you will be helping your fellow clowns.
