DeWilde continued from page 3 Mr. Rainbow has some fun with Jim and Maria DeWilde at the Kansas City Convention's Awards Banquet. Jim had been poking fun at Mr. Rainbow about his pending cover on the New Calliope. lines and the ones doing what seems like menial jobs. I served over 22 years in the service, and no job can be done without everyone working to complete it.” He offers these words of advice to current servicemen and women, “Don’t ever be afraid to ask questions no matter how trivial they may sound; always try to do your very best (rewards will come later); and have faith in yourself, your God and your Country.” On Serving His Community Not only is Jim dedicated to his country, he is also very dedicated to his community. For over five summers, he has volunteered to co-host a three-day youth clown school sponsored by the Southwest Oklahoma Community Action Retired Senior Volunteer Program. His participation has helped the clown school grow from two schools in one town to three schools in three different towns! Averaging about ten students per class, they learn balloon twisting, basic makeup, magic and skits. At graduation, students typically perform at a local nursing home. On His Clowning When asked about his own clown alma mater, Jim says he went to the School of Hard Knocks and Perseverance from 1978 to 2000. It was in 2000 that he was introduced to COAI.
