Confirmation<br />
In 1913 Archbishop Carr confirmed 100 children and adults at <strong>St</strong> Anthony’s Church, Glen<br />
Huntly. Sponsors were Mr Coughlan and Miss Descrimes. In later years confirmation<br />
candidates selected their own individual sponsor. Sponsor prerequisites were that they be<br />
confirmed, practising Catholics of at least 16 years of age. In recent years candidates from De<br />
La Salle College Malvern have joined candidates from Sunday School and <strong>St</strong> Anthony’s<br />
School and in the Jubilee Year of 2000 the ceremony was held at <strong>St</strong> Patrick’s Cathedral with<br />
two other parishes.<br />

An Academic School<br />
From the beginning, <strong>St</strong> Anthony’s School had a reputation for academic achievement. The<br />
reports of the Government Inspectors, accounts in the Advocate and the achievements of<br />
many students in later life make this clear.<br />
