Athlete of the Month
Sandburg multi-sport
athlete wins August honor
Bill Jones, Editor
Sandburg senior Marvin
Agwomoh already made his
mark on the track as a state
qualifier in the 800-meter
relay. He also has proven a
leader for the Sandburg boys
basketball team.
And in Week 1 of fall football,
he was one of the key
factors in the Eagles picking
up a win in their seasonopener
for the first time in a
few years.
That all makes it difficult
to deny the results of the
popular vote, as Agwomoh
claimed the most nods
for 22nd Century Media’s
Southwest Chicago Athlete
of the Month contest for August.
The Athlete of the Month
The Eagles, considered
but dropped a 2-0 decision
in the championship of the
Best of the West Tournament
Central.
North is the two-time defending
To get to the finals, the unranked
Eagles (3-2-1) won
their pool, which included a
1-0 stunner over 13th-ranked
Naperville Central. Adam
Azhari scored the lone goal
with an assist from Colin
Kroll. Goalie Connor Baker
recorded the shutout.
