Dave was born on January 25, 1942, in Detroit, Michigan. He graduated Cooley High School and then attended George Williams College in Chicago It was there that he met his wife, Judith L. Sutherland, and they were married Dec. 21, 1966. They spent 52 years together and had two children, Kenneth and Laura. Dave was drafted into the United States Army in 1966, and he served two years before returning to finish his last year at George Williams College. He worked for the Southwest YMCA, followed by a 30- year guidance counselor career at Sandburg High School in Orland Park. He completed his master’s degree in counseling during his time at Sandburg. A memorial service is to be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 9, at St. Luke Presbyterian Church, 3910 Highland Ave., Downers Grove. A reception will be held immediately following the service. Survivors include his wife, Judy; his son, Ken (Vicky); and granddaughter, Kailey. Memorial donations can be made to St. Luke Presbyterian Church/Mission Committee, www.stlukedg.org/page/mission. Police warn of motor vehicle burglaries Submitted by Orland Park Police Department The Orland Park Police Department recently issued the following community alert. Recently there has been an increase in burglary to motor vehicles in the Orland Park area. All of the vehicles entered were unlocked, and personal property was removed from the vehicles. The reported auto burglaries occurred in the late evening to early morning hours. Residents are encouraged to not leave valuables in their cars — particularly in plain sight. They also are reminded not to leave key fobs or keys to a vehicle in or near the vehicle. These crimes are preventable, police said. People should lock their vehicle doors, even if they are away from the vehicle for only a brief time. People also should contact the Orland Park Police Department immediately to report suspicious activity at (708) 349-4111.
