RSPCA Volunteers give their Time
The RSPCA Milton Keynes and North Bucks is a charity
that is registered separately from the National RSPCA.
It relies heavily on its volunteers, who give up their
time to support the area’s animals.
We all love and support the gorgeous animals but the
volunteers behind the animals deserve recognition
for their work and dedication. Here are the stars and
unsung heroes of RSPCA Milton Keynes and North
Bucks:
Fosterers – this dedicated group take pregnant cats
or cats with kittens into their own homes until they
are ready to be re-homed. There are also long-term
fosterers who look after golden oldies and animals
with medical conditions.
Carers - these loving people feed, clean and socialise
the branch’s animals awaiting re-homing.
Charity shops and fundraisers – they do the cuddly
stuff as well as man the branch’s fundraising stalls
and organise their own events. They also organise
publicity and so many other things besides and the
RSPCA wouldn’t be able to care without them.
Adopters – These people adopt the animals and give
them their forever homes, they donate and support in
whatever way they can.
Without these stars RSPCA Milton Keynes and North
Bucks wouldn’t be the successful branch it is.
Keep your Pets Calm
These top tips from Nog and his vet friends will help
to keep your pets happy during firework season
Do
• Provide a “safe haven” ideally in an inside room with
soft furnishings, which is as dark, comfortable and
quiet as possible.
• Introduce and acclimatise your dog or cat to the den
before it is needed.
• Muffle sound coming into the house – draw the
curtains.
• Provide other noise with radio or TV.
• Distract with a toy/puzzle feeder or game.
• Keep your pet company but ignore fearful
behaviours such as panting or shaking.
• Take your dog for a walk before dusk when the
fireworks start.
• Provide a litter tray for cats being kept indoors.
• Make sure your dogs and cats are microchipped in
case they stray.
Consider
• Calming and appeasing agents.
• Calmex tablets.
• Zylkene tablets – a natural product derived from milk
protein which helps pets cope when facing unusual
and unpredictable situations.
• Adaptil/feliway diffusers, sprays and collars in the
den/safe haven room.
Appeasing pheromones produce a calming effect.
