Graffiti Removal – this popular team offering
through Volunteer Canterbury is weather
dependent. Removal of tagging creates safer
communities and it’s a fund group community
service project.
Conservation and the
environment
Both Willowbank Wildlife Reserve
and Orana Park are registered
charities (as are all
organisations to which
we send groups/
teams of volunteers).
Projects at these
sites can include
weeding, clearing of
enclosures, planting.
Avon
otakaro
network:
mahinga kai
This project takes place on land in the
proximity of the Anzac Reserve. Replanting
of this area aims to enhance a return of both
bird and marine life, including whitebait.
This area is ‘red zoned’ and as such requires
recognition of need for care as ground surfaces
are very uneven. It is isolated, and bathroom
facilities are in the form of a chemical toilet
in a portable shelter. Tasks at this site include
weeding, planting, placement of protection
material around new plantings, watering,
mulching.
Avon loop community
cottage
The Avon Loop Community Cottage is a hub
for those in the vicinity. This central city
group welcomes a team to come in during
September on either a Monday, Tuesday or
Wednesday morning to give the gardens a
tidy-up. You will need to bring your own
Supporting the Journey
of our Young People
There is a real need for people who are willing
to share their life skills and experiences to
walk alongside some of our young people.
These sorts of mentoring roles are supported
by regular supervision and
training. And the impact
on both the mentee and
the mentor cannot
be underestimated.
Sharing the
excitement of
achievement of a
mentee’s goal and
knowing that your
support was part of
getting there is a huge
privilege. If you want
to help, check out the
listings under the category
