High seventh-grader
Ryan Soderstrom was chosen as Standout Student
for his academic excellence.
What is one essential you must have when
studying?
One thing that is essential for me to study
is a study group. I prefer to study with others
rather than by myself.
What do you like to do when not in school or
studying?
When I am not in school, I like to play video
games such as Fortnite and Call of Duty.
I also like to go outside and play with my
friends at the park.
What is your dream job?
My dream job is chemical engineer. I
would like to be a chemical engineer because
I enjoy mixing things and getting reactions.
Chemical engineers also make a good
amount of money for the future.
What are some of your most played songs
on your iPod?
I do not listen to music on my phone, and
I also do not have a favorite artist or type
of music. I listen to anything on the radio or
played by someone else.
What is one thing people do not know about
you?
People don’t really know that I enjoy volunteering
my time for my church and Boy
Scouts. Seeing people appreciate my help really
warms my heart.
Whom do you look up to and why?
I look up to my father and mother because
they have raised a successful family and have
provided me with shelter and food my entire
life. I hope to grow up and be like them.
What do you keep under your bed and why?
I like to keep the underside of my bed
clean so I do not keep anything under there.
Who is your favorite teacher and why?
My favorite teacher ever is Mrs. Martino.
Photo Submitted
She was my second-grade teacher. She was
very enthusiastic, and she had us make castles,
which was the best project ever. Her excitement
when we got something right was
really amazing.
What is your favorite class and why?
My favorite class is math. I enjoy learning
and practicing all the new material that we
learn.
What is one thing that stands out about
your school?
One thing that I think stands out about
Homer Jr. High is that we have a lot of pride.
We are always rooting for our teams.
What extracurricular(s) do you wish your
school had?
I wish my school had an architecture club.
I’ve always been interested in how buildings
are designed.
What is your morning routine?
When I wake up, I get my clothes on then
do my hair. After that, I go downstairs and
eat my breakfast. Next, I go brush my teeth
and head to school.
If you could change one thing about school,
what would it be?
I would change what time we start. We
start very early, and I am really tired for the
rest of the day.
What is your favorite thing to eat in the
cafeteria?
My favorite thing to eat in the cafeteria is
a salad with Italian dressing.
What’s your best memory from school?
In second grade, I did a really good math
problem, and my teacher let me present it to
the principal, and I was really happy about it!
Eagle Scout candidate gives back
to Reed School with benches
Submitted by Will County
School District 92
Students at Reed School
have new, cool spots to hangout
and talk with friends during
recess.
Benches were designed
and built for the students’
use by Eagle Scout candidate
Nick Martin, a junior
at Lockport Township High
School. Martin attended
Reed School and wanted to
give back to the Will County
School District 92 school
community.
Thanks to these new
additions, students now
have “Buddy Benches” in
two areas of the school’s
playground. When Principal
Cathy Slee met with
students to talk about the
new benches, the students
shared that it’s a great place
to just sit and relax.
One student said, “Please
tell the builder we said
thanks.”
LTHS accepting applications
for Petite Porters Preschool
Submitted by Lockport
Township High School
District 205
Lockport Township High
School District 205 is now
accepting applications for
the Petite Porters Preschool.
The purpose of the program
is to provide high
school students enrolled in
Regan Cronholm’s Family
and Consumer Sciences
Department’s child care and
guidance course. The course
is a practical, hands-on experience
that is to enable students
to develop and teach
age-appropriate, enriching
activities to youngsters ages
2.5-5.
Petite Porters Preschool is
to be housed at LTHS’s East
Campus, 1333 E. 7th St. in
Lockport, and sessions are
to run from 9:25-10:10 a.m.
every Tuesday, Wednesday,
Reed School students relax on benches designed and
built by Eagle Scout Nick Martin, a junior at LTHS. Martin
attended Reed School when he was younger. Photo
submitted
and Thursday from Oct. 2
through Dec. 13, then are to
begin again Feb. 19 through
May 16.
The $100 fee per semester
is to help offset supply and
activity costs. Because the
program is limited to 12 preschoolers,
applications are to
be accepted on a first-come,
first-served basis.
Applications are available
by emailing Cronholm
at rcronholm@lths.org. Applicants
should return the
completed application and
general information sheet as
well as a current copy of the
child’s health exam to the security
desk at East Campus
or by emailing them to Cronholm.
Upon acceptance into
Petite Porter Preschool, an
informational meeting for
parents is to be held where
parents are to view the room
and hear about the curriculum.
Cronholm and her students
look forward to this
unique experience that is
designed to prepare students
for a career in the early child
care field.
“Types of early child care
programs and career opportunities
will be explored,”
Cronholm said. “In order
to work successfully with
young children, you need to
understand them. Using this
information, students will
plan developmentally appropriate
activities to be used
in a preschool setting, and
teaching techniques will be
developed through practical
applications.”
