CYCLING FUN: Lining up for the Family Fitness Fun

The Seaside Family Church will host their annual
Family Fitness Fun Day at the Gonubie Sports
Grounds in East London on October 20.
The event started off as an idea to make a
difference in the community, while being a fund
raiser for additional classrooms at the Gonubie
Christian School, which is linked to the church.
“Together with Percy Shaw, we arranged a fun
cycle to get the community participating,” Pa st o r
Dion Pfiffner said.
Formally known as the Seaside Family Church
Fun Cycle, it will encompass children’s cycling and
a 5km fun run/walk. There will be three cycle
distances available: 50km, 30km and 10km.
Pfiffner said that it was a family friendly
experience that everyone could be part of.
“The kiddies event allows kids as young as two
to participate in three different distances at the
Gonubie Sports Fields. There are also fantastic
prizes available to those who stay for the prizegiving,”
Pfiffner said.
The 10km cycle route will circuit around the
Main Road, Gulls Way, Ocean Way Road and back
to the Main Road. Funds raised so far have helped
build eight classrooms and an administration
block. The proceeds from this race will go to
further fund the school and church.
“This wouldn’t have been possible without the
efforts of the volunteers, the participation of the
sponsoring companies and willing participants,”
Pfiffner said.

Hiking along the scenic East Coast

EAST London residents spent
their Sunday at the Areena
Riverside Resort hiking the 10km
trail as part of the weekly Let’s
Hike event.
Organiser Karen McLaren said
the purpose of the day was for
residents to connect with nature,
while getting exercise in an
environment that they would not
normally visit by themselves.
“The [event] was started in
February 2011 as a replacement
to border Outdoor Adventure.
“We have a monthly

programme of different walks
from day walks to eight-day full
backpack trails,” she said.
“There is no age restriction, all
walks are determined by a
person's own abilities.
“Our next hike will be on
Sunday at Nature's Rest where
we will take on a 7km trail.”

Selborne U15s excel in Bloem

The Selborne U/15A cricket team
saw much success in
Bloemfontein last weekend,
winning three out of four games
and only losing one.
Their first match on Saturday
was against Grey College who
Selborne managed to bowl out in
30.2 overs, with Grey achieving a
total of 126 runs.
Michael McGill claimed five
wickets in eight overs and
Selborne in their turn at the
crease, scored130 runs while
only losing two wickets, winning
the match by eight wickets.
On Sunday, Selborne went up
against Maritzburg College on
Monday losing by seven wickets.
After winning the toss and
deciding to bat, Selborne scored
136 all out.Top scorers were
Heath Rohm (42 runs), Matthew
Coetzer (28 runs), and Jared Red
(21). To their credit, Selborne
made Maritzburg work hard for
their victory with their opponents
clawing their way to 137 runs
with three wickets lost.
Monday saw Selborne face off
against Kearsney College with
Selborne winning the toss and
choosing to bat. Selborne scored
an impressive 215 runs in 49.2
overs but were bowled all out in
the end. Adam du Plessis
top-scored with 66 runs.
Kearsney came close to
matching Selborne with 213 runs
and were bowled out in the final
o v e r.
The final match on Tuesday
was against Woodridge College.
Selborne was on the field for the
first half and made short work of
Woodridge, bowling them out in
less than 20 overs for only 80
runs. They then took up the bat
and proceeded to give their
opponents a thrashing, scoring
84 runs in just 11 overs while
only losing one wicket.
