School News Lake Forest High School McDonnel receives scholarship Colin McDonnell, of Lake Forest High School, is one of 175 students in the region who have been awarded scholarships as part of Comcast’s annual Leaders and Achievers Scholarship program. The program is a onetime, $1,000 scholarship awarded to the best and brightest high school seniors for their community service, academic performance and leadership skills. Michigan Tech University Morehouse earns degree Jennifer Morehouse, of Lake Forest, graduated from Michigan Tech University in May with a degree in geospatial/ survey engineering, and has accepted an invitation to attend Embry-Riddle University’s Drone Aviation Program. She credits her favorite Country Day School teachers with inspiring her in middle school to “dream big and go far.” University of Wisconsin Madison Tsarwhas named to dean’s high honors The University of Wisconsin-Madison has recognized students named to the dean’s list for the fall semester of the 2017-18 academic year. Elaina Tsarwhas, of Lake Forest, was named to the dean’s high honors. Tsarwhas attends the School of Human Ecology. To be eligible for the dean’s list, students must complete a minimum of 12 graded degree credits in that semester. Seton Hall University Steck named to dean’s list Seton Hall University is pleased to announce Henry Steck, of Lake Forest, has qualified for Spring 2018 dean’s list. Colgate University Students awarded for good grades Emma DeNoble, a Lake Forest High School graduate and a member of the Colgate University Class of 2020, has earned the spring 2018 dean’s award for academic excellence. DeNoble’s current major is economics. Students who receive a term grade point average of 3.3 or higher while completing at least three courses earn the spring 2018 dean’s award for academic excellence. Students who receive a term grade point average of 3.6 or higher while completing at least three courses during the spring 2018 semester earn the dean’s award with distinction. The following students earned the dean’s award with distinction: Margaret Carney, of Lake Bluff, is a graduate of Lake Forest High School and a member of the Colgate Class of 2018. Carney’s current major is political science. Megan Manning, of Lake Bluff, is a graduate of Lake Forest High School and a member of the Colgate Class of 2018. Manning’s current major is English. Sydney Johnston, of Lake Forest, is a graduate of Lake Forest High School and a member of the Colgate Class of 2018. Johnston’s current major is psychology. Virginia Tech University Long named to dean’s list Robert Emmett Long, of Lake Forest, was named to the Virginia Tech University’s Spring 2017 dean’s list. A junior majoring in both accounting and finance in the Pamplin College of Business, this is Long’s fifth time to be named to the dean’s list. Lawrence University Students named to dean’s list The following area students have been named to the Lawrence University dean’s list for the 2017-18 academic year. Students must maintain a minimum 3.4 grade point average for the entire academic year to qualify for dean’s list honors. Kate Youdell, of Lake Bluff. Luke Shimabukuro, of Lake Forest. Ripon College Goeks named to dean’s list Ripon College has announced its dean’s list for the spring 2018 semester, recognizing academic excellence. To qualify for the dean’s list at Ripon College, students must achieve a 3.40 grade point average or higher on a 4.00 scale and complete at least 12 credits of regular lettergraded work. Julia Goeks, of Lake Forest, class of 2021 has been named to the spring 2018 dean’s list at Ripon College.
