Prioritising sexual & reproductive health
in the SMR
Following the State Government’s release of Victoria’s
first ever women’s sexual and reproductive health strategy
and priority action plan in 2017, WHISE was allocated
extra funding to deliver a strategy to address the
sexual and reproductive health needs of women in the
SMR.
As a region, stakeholders have collaboratively worked
together over the past six months to develop a threeyear
regional strategy, Good Health Down South, to
meet the unique needs of the region. The Strategy is an
opportunity to bring stakeholders together to work toward
the vision:
‘To promote and celebrate optimal sexual and reproductive
health in the SMR, by increasing knowledge and access to safe
and appropriate services’
WHISE is committed to addressing priorities identified
by stakeholders in the region:
• Reproductive Access and Rights
• Advocacy
• Sexually Transmitted Infections
• Sexual and Reproductive Health Literacy
A Community of Practice was established to develop
the Strategy, comprised of passionate and engaged
stakeholders who have freely shared their expertise of
sexual and reproductive health in the region.
Good Health Down South is also guided by a Steering
Committee, which has not only strengthened collective
and coordinated action, but also brought together expertise
and resources, to ultimately work towards meeting
the sexual and reproductive health needs of women
across our whole region.
