A day for women
international women’s day
WHISE celebrated 2017 International
Women’s Day by attending partner
organisations’ events throughout
the region, including Connect
Health & Community, Cardinia Shire,
and Southern Migrant Resource
Centre (SMRC).
WHISE also collaborated with Glen
Eira City Council to support their
International Women’s Day event,
which proved a success, with 200
people in attendance. The theme
this year was #PressForProgress,
which called on collective action to
accelerate gender parity. Community
members were invited to a lunch
to celebrate the achievements of
women locally as well listen to an
all-female panel, who shared their
stories of action and change.
As part of International Women’s
Day, WHISE also participated in 40
Years Strong, a social media campaign
celebrating the contribution
of women’s led services in Victoria.
This was also an opportunity to
demonstrate the importance and
strength of women’s health services
to the wider community.
All the women’s health services
across Victoria came together as a
collective to develop the campaign.
40 Years Strong was a recognition
of the history and expertise of Victorian
women’s health services in
addressing gender equity, women’s
sexual and reproductive health and
the prevention of violence against
women.
