Christmas arrives at Hyacinth House
When you have twenty years of
landscape gardening experience
under your belt, have completed a
two year floristry course at Langside College
and spent two years working at Helensburgh
Flowers: what do you do when you see a
former garden centre unit come up for sale
in your old neighbourhood in Anniesland?
If you’re Gary MacLean – you go after the
dream and set up your own business.
‘We knew the potential of this old unit
and jumped at the chance to rejuvenate the
building and space,’ says Gary. ‘After the
refurbishment work was completed previous
customers would come in and say it “was
like meeting an old friend again”, customers
old and new are delighted with what we’ve
achieved with the space.
‘We are florists
and have a
strong wedding
flower business,
but house
plants are really
on trend right
now and I have
always loved
cacti and other
succulents
– a hangover from my horticulture days –
so we have an expanding stock of indoor,
and outdoor garden plants which are great
gifts too.
‘With plans in the pipeline to convert
the side building to a cake and coffee shop
we are buzzing with ideas! For now we are
setting up dates for our Christmas wreath
making and decorating classes and our large
stock of Christmas trees arrive the last week
of November. This is very much a well-loved
community space and everyone is welcome.’
