Swaffham in Bloom
On 12th September 2018 the Anglia in Bloom awards
took place and awarded Swaffham a Silver Gilt award
for their entry in this year's competition. Areas that
received specific praise included the development
of the community garden on the Campingland,
the hare trail and the planted hay cart display in
Plowright Place. Suffield Court won the award for
best Sheltered Housing Garden, so congratulations
to them for their continued hard work in making
their gardens such a haven for residents.
On 3rd October residents celebrated their win with
a short ceremony where they were presented with
their award, which consisted of a framed certificate
and a handmade, engraved wooden bowl. Chris
Rainbow, Mayor of Suffield Court, thanked all the
residents for their support with a special mention
for Dennis, Tom and Peter for going the extra mile.
Funeral Services Dedication Service
Local dignitaries came together with the Swaffham
community, for the dedication service of the East of
England Co-op Funeral Services’ Chapel of Rest on
the Market Place on Friday 28 September.
Mayor of Swaffham Colin Houghton attended the
open event, with a dedication service and blessing
led by Reverend Janet Allen. Taking place on the
World’s Biggest Coffee Morning, the branch also
raised funds for Macmillan Cancer Support.
Local Funeral Co-ordinator Christine Johnson, said:
“It was lovely to welcome people to join us for the
special service, whilst also supporting such a worthy
cause. Since opening our doors earlier this year, I
have been welcomed into the community and feel
privileged to have been trusted to support local
people in their time of need.”
Children’s Centres Consultation
The current contracts for children’s centres were
originally awarded in 2011 and come to an end
next year. Norfolk County Council wants to use this
opportunity to create a new service that is consistent
across the county and meets the needs of today’s
families. The review of the role played by Norfolk’s
Children’s Centres has been a long time coming,
mid-way through September Norfolk County Council
launched an eight-week consultation into proposals
for the new service, changing how early childhood
services are delivered to children aged 0-5 and their
families. The proposed service would bring the
services out of the buildings and into the community,
to the children and families who need them the
most while making it easier for families to access the
information and advice they need, through providing
better joined up online and digital services.
The review does mean 465 of Norfolk’s 53 children’s
centres could be closed but the service, will be
protected. The service is what matters here not the
building it is delivered from. As your County Councillor
I want to make sure the Council get this right, so
please take the time to complete the consultation
which runs until November 9 and is available online
at www.norfolk.gov.uk/childrenscentres.
Any questions please email ed.colman.cllr@norfolk.gov.uk
