Guides Cookie Blitz
The 2nd Strasbourg Guide Unit, all pumped up and ready to SELL COOKIES!
18111DA0
On Oct 9th the 2d Strasbourg Girl Guides gathered at the Wildlife Hall, to prep for the semi-annual
Cookie Blitz. (The fall ones are mint flavoured!) Hotdogs and juice were made ready to fortify them for
the big event. Much appreciated was Joy Strueby who not only helped me in the kitchen, but also took a
group of girls out as well. Karen Hancock and Karla Fletcher-Hegglin, the girl guide leaders coordinated
the blitz as well as got the girls pumped for action. Where are we going? Door to door. What are we going
to do? SELL COOKIES!! The excitement mirrored on their faces is in the pictures. What a huge success it
was, and so much fun. So much so that it was repeated the very next week! On Oct 16th, again the girls met
at the hall; had a few minutes to play a game or two, then had their hotdogs, juice and treats . Added to
the girls’ leaders, were Brenda Laliberte, Rachelle Fuller, Joy Strueby, and Pathfinder Hannah Kozachuk,
who also had her own group as well. Did I mention we also have more girls this time around? Growing
greatness ...yes we are!
The Launch!
-info and photo submitted by Guider Barb
On September the 22nd, at Mosaic
Stadium in Regina, over 800 Girl Guides
from all four corners of our province met
to celebrate the launch of our new program
“Girls First”. Karen Hancock and Karla
Fletcher Hegglin, from 2d Strasbourg Girl
Guides took their girls (Sparks to Pathfinders)
to share in the exciting ground
breaking event.
The new program is more flexible, more
aimed at changing needs and interests,
and more about empowering the girls.
We are stepping into the future …Hello?
However, some things will stay the same -
camps, badges, cookies, etc. Other members
attending from our Long Lake District
were Janice Graessli, Brenda Laliberte,
Barb Boughner (we manned stations) and
Cheryl Dodds brought her Lumsden girls.
Our District Commissioner Debbie Mayer
was there, as well as Laurie Lanovaz, the
Provincial Commissioner and special guest
Krysta Coyle, Guiding Ambassador.
It was really cold and windy but of
course that didn’t stop the guiding lights,
nor slow them down. Troopers all. There
were 22 stations set up, everything from
science to photo booth, and singing and
dancing as well. A lot to see, a lot to do.
A lot of inspiring things happening. So
heart-filling, truly. We were even on the
playing field listening to the beautiful voice of our own Janice G. over the loud speakers leading us in
song. Surreal.
We were treated to a most delicious lunch of burgers and veggie trays, and for supper we had pizza. Boxes
and boxes and boxes of every kind of pizza. You need many when you are hundreds and hundreds! Yes
we are moving into the future and making history along the way.
Semans news
Semans and District Fire and Rescue cooked up
175 delicious steaks and 25 hamburgers on Saturday,
Oct. 20 at their annual fall fundraiser event.
There was a great crowd of people there to support a
much appreciated local organization. The meat was
generously donated by Richardson Pioneer Southey.
The winner of the 50/50 draw was Greg Dunlop.
Semans Drop-In Centre hosted a successful Soup
and Sandwich lunch on Tuesday, Oct. 23. The winner
of the draws were: Bob Mann (50/50); Morgan
Hendry (quilt); and Marci Macomber ( Christmas
table runner). The Seniors’ next event is a bingo in
November.
Harvest in the Semans area is pretty well
wrapped-up for another season. Fall field work is
going on and lots of leaves and gardens are being
cleaned up for winter. Hint for the weatherman:
now that harvest is done, we wouldn’t mind a bit of
snow to hide those leaves and gardens!!
