U K POEM CORNER TOUCHING TOMORROW Poem donated by David Garrett 49 We are touching tomorrow as tomorrow is touching me, Into the future I ride apprehensive, time is carrying me bodily. Once I stood still and watched the world in front hover. Now I have caught it up at last and I’m among its future, time is travelling fast. Too fast to contemplate change, I am comfortable in my rut. Let the world carry on without me, keeping the door of the future firmly shut. I knew where I was in the past among the simple pleasures I once knew. Now pleasures are decided for me, where I go or what I do. Yes, time has got a stranglehold now the future is the present, the past does not exist. There looms another future, another non event. Give me the quiet stillness I once knew when I in my childhood played, deserted streets and pavements, the future yet unmade. Two thousand and something used to be science fiction, years ago. Now it is science fact and among science fact or fiction I now go. Watching man transverse the world, distance conquered and brought down.
