Board members will go in-committee to talk about ratepayer-funded food they consume at meetings. Food at the city’s community boards has been a source of debate since we revealed the costs a few weeks ago. In-committee means the public is excluded from that part of the meeting. Journalists can stay but they are prohibited from reporting what is said. That’s why they will leave the room and then get what was discussed/debated another way. Board members have come up with lame reasons why the meeting is being held in secret. It’s less than a year to the next election. The residents were upset again when only some of the affected people were given an apology by the construction site’s owner, Summerset. The incident happened on October 25, when residents on Hawthornden Rd and Henridge Pl lost water unexpectedly at about 10am. They did not get their water supply back until about 4.30pm that day. Henridge Pl resident Nicola McCormick said what had frustrated her the most was the lack of acknowledgement of the incident from Summerset. “The thing that really annoyed residents of Henridge Pl was they [Summerset] sent an apology to residents of Hawthornden Rd, but didn’t send one for us,” Mrs McCormick said. “They should use some commonsense, notify the tree trouble? call us 384 9630 www.fourseasonstreecare.co.nz t h e t r e e p e o p l e f o u r s e a s o n s t r e e C a r e people, and do their homework and find out who was affected.” A Summerset spokeswoman said a water pipe fractured during work at the site. She said Summerset was unaware that Henridge Pl was affected by the water outage and apologised to the residents who did not receive an apology. Local News Now In Brief Fire rages, homes at risk MEMORIAL AVE LIGHTS City council staff will install a right-turning arrow at the Memorial and Roydvale Ave traffic lights in Burnside this week. The arrow will be on the city-bound side of Memorial Ave. Fendalton-Waimairi-Harewood Community Board chairman Sam MacDonald said the issue was raised by residents and city council staff came up with the solution to improve congestion and safety. KNIGHTS STREAM SPEED City council staff have proposed a 40km/h speed limit for the Knights Stream subdivision in Halswell. The current speed limit is 50 km/h, but a city council report said there have been issues with speed in the subdivision. A decision will be made by the Halswell-Hornby-Riccarton Community Board tonight. YOUTH FUNDING Riccarton High School student Zak Osborne, 16, has applied for $1000 from the Halswell-Hornby- Riccarton Community Board to take part in a ‘world challenge’ event in Cambodia next month. The ‘world challenge’ is an expedition in which students plan and lead local community projects overseas. The board will vote on his application tonight.
